22.01.2022 When I got a phone call to let me know I’d been nominated for the The Weekly Times 2020 Shine Awards, I was dumbfounded! I was driving to a nearby town to get some supplies when I received the call, and told the journalist, Camille, I’d quickly call her back. When I hung up, I burst into tears. My son Jack, who was with me, wondered what on earth was wrong!... I explained to him what the Shine Awards were all about, & that I’d been nominated - not just once, but by three people! He said ‘But that’s awesome, Mum!! Why are you crying..?!’ There were several reasons: To think that someone thought enough about the work that I do, to nominate me for such an award, was overwhelming! I honestly never thought it would happen to me. And, that the things I talk about & share with everyone, is making a difference & resonating with people. Once you put your message out there, you never truly know what impact it’s going to have, or if it’s going to help improve the lives of those with hearing loss. My hearing loss advocacy work, including the Mask Advocacy Campaign - my most important project during this time of Covid - was one of the main highlights in my three nominations. To think that all those years ago, if I hadn’t shared my story & opened up about my own hearing loss journey, none of this would be happening right now. To the three people who nominated me - one I know, the other two who are a mystery - from the bottom of my heart.. thank you! To be nominated for this award has been the highlight of my year & has absolutely filled my cup. To hear the words Oh wow.. you totally deserve this, Mum! You’ve worked really hard to help other people like you, who are deaf. It’s so awesome! from Jack, filled my heart with happiness. There’s nothing better!

22.01.2022 Deafness, in its varying levels and degrees, creates communication barriers. People with a hearing loss have much more difficulty accessing various social media content & information shared, than people with hearing. Subtitles are rarely made available for us to read, so we can hear too.... Every single person I know with a hearing loss says the same thing - we wish there was more subtitles on everything! It's especially frustrating when you know that subtitle/transcription technology and apps are available for people to use. But not everyone adds subtitles to their content. 1 in 6 people in Australia live with hearing loss. Being able to access the information that you share, that everyone else can, is important too! It's time our communities and the services we use began thinking of us when they’re creating their content for social media. Are there ways your business can be more inclusive? By making your content accessible with subtitles, you’re opening up your offerings to even more people. This also means more money coming in for your business! And trust me - when I see a business going that extra mile to be genuinely inclusive, I want to support them, talk about them and share how amazing they are with the people I know. Everyone’s a winner! After all, my money is just the same as yours, despite my hearing loss. 19.01.2022 Sunshine, fresh air, campfires, cooking & eating outside.. exactly what we needed to reset our bodies and minds. After four beautiful days, I’m back home again and feel ready to face the upcoming festive season. I also arrived home to find my order for earring supplies I’d ordered monthsssss ago from overseas, had finally been delivered!... I’ve been in such a panic, I tell you! 16.01.2022 About a year into flluskë, I decided I wanted to eventually do some talks for Audiologists. I didn’t really know how I’d go about it, who to talk to or where I should present at, but added it to my list of things I wanted to achieve in the next 5 years. I’m excited to let you all know that this opportunity has finally arrived! ... This Friday, I’ve been invited to co present with Dr Caitlin Barr from Soundfair at this years medical conference, InspirED. InspirED is designed to provide students, interns and early career audiologists with an opportunity to learn from, engage and collaborate with a diverse range of clinical and industry leaders. The title for the session I’ll be presenting at is: Leading by example: putting person-centred care at the heart of practice. I’ll be speaking about my experiences with hearing loss and how it impacts my daily life. I’ll also be discussing the importance of treating clients with a holistic approach, rather than just being the recipient of a hearing device. Having the opportunity to make a positive impact in the Audiology industry, and help improve connections between Audiologists & the people who come to them for assistance, is a dream come true! Sometimes the journey to an Audiologists Clinic isn’t always a smooth or simple one. There can be conflicting emotions, shame, a lack of confidence and memories of negative life experiences to overcome, before a decision to get a hearing device is made. Bringing awareness to these barriers can only improve the way patients are cared for, and I’m really looking forward to discussing these topics with my audience. 15.01.2022 A new week is ahead of us and I’m excited to get stuck into it! Here’s what I have on my list this for today: Over the weekend, I had an influx of earring orders come in, which I’m so thrilled about. I’ll be heading into the studio soon, to package up all the purchases & get them to the post office ASAP!... Attending a Zoom meeting for an exciting event I’ll be part of on Friday, which I’m so excited to let you all know about. More on this later today! 14.01.2022 Dreaming of Open Studios and having my customers come to visit me again.. It feels like a lifetime ago since I opened the doors to my studio space & enjoyed the company of my regulars, and seeing new visitors pop in to say hello and buy some flluskë. I’m lucky enough to have this wonderful, cosy studio space to share with everyone and to be honest, it’s felt kinda lonely in there by myself!... I’m really missing the fun times we all have in the studio. Whether it’s finding that perfect earring for a gift, helping one of my regulars select the newest addition to their flluskë collection or watching a little girl gaze up in wonder at all the glittery, vibrant flluskë bubbles she has to choose from, I love every moment with my customers. 13.01.2022 I painted over 300 pairs of earrings today! It was so good to be back in the studio after our little break, to knuckle down and get stuck into some making. This was my first really productive day in a looooong time - my energy levels have been so up and down these last few months, to be honest. The Rona-coaster got me good! ... There will be a full website restock tomorrow, including all the Christmas Stud Packs and adorable Plum Puddings. I’ve also created another gorgeous festive themed flluskë Stud, which I think you’re all going to love! Can’t wait to show you tomorrow. I’m also getting lots of messages asking when flluskë Mini will be restocked. I promise I’ll have another batch ready to go in the coming weeks. After this lot, flluskë Mini will be discontinued I’m afraid. I’ll make sure this restock is a good one though, and will let you know the date they’ll be available, so you don’t miss out! The day isn’t done quite yet - I’ll be heading back to the studio tonight to pour all the resin. It’s my favourite part of the making process - when I see all the earrings transform into twinkling, vibrant beauties. 06.01.2022 We’ve packed our camper trailer & are heading off on a mini break for the weekend! The rain hasn’t really stopped today, and the temperature isn’t the warmest, but that’s ok!
