24.01.2022 If the bushfire events through NSW and Victoria over the past few weeks have caused you to feel distressed, overwhelmed or down, you are not alone. With fires ...across the country and heavy smoke in Canberra, it’s normal to experience feelings of confusion and uncertainty about the future. We spoke with our Chief Psychiatrist, Dr Denise Riordan, who has some practical advice on what we can all be doing to look after our mental health and wellbeing: be kind to yourself and don’t expect to have all the answers, difficult though that might be spend time with and get support from family, friends and other people in the community as expressing how you’re feeling will help relieve distress keep to routines as much as possible and pay attention to basic self-care, such as eating healthily and regularly and maintaining a good sleep pattern think about how much media and social media you are accessing, as constantly watching or listening to information about distressing events can make things feel worse For more information, visit: https://health.act.gov.au//heavy-smoke-and-hot-conditions- ACT Emergency Services Agency

24.01.2022 Who else is at home trying to keep kids occupied while also working? One of my friends sent me this Lego Challenge - I think it could be a winner. What are you doing with your kids?

23.01.2022 Usually, in the first week of January, I send out an email about all of our programs and services. People are inspired to take up yoga or get back into yoga because it's a new year. But this is not the week for marketing. Our country is mourning the loss of beautiful wilderness areas, the loss of our favourite family holiday spots and for some, the loss of property and family members. So, instead of encouraging you to do yoga this new year, I'm sending you an honest and open... email and hoping we can share the love across our community through acts of kindness. If you didn't receive it in your inbox, you can read the email here. https://mailchi.mp//a-heartfelt-email-coming-together-thro

15.01.2022 Flourish Yoga Canberra is offering free classes for those who have evacuated because of fires. Just turn up and the teacher will book you in for free. You can see our timetable online here: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/networkdashboard/ As some of you know, I was evacuated myself on New Years Eve and it has really shaken me. I wish I could do more to help. Hopefully some time and space to relax, exercise and breathe will ease some of the pain. The studio is air-condit...ioned and we are trying to keep it as smoke-free as possible. And don't worry - you're very much allowed to cry during yoga if you need to, or leave the room or whatever you need to do. We have a welcoming and non-judgemental space for all. These are painful times. (Bernie - owner, Flourish Yoga)

05.01.2022 How’s everyone going today? It’s a really hard time. I’m just starting my third week working from home and I’m finally starting to settle into it. I spent the weekend setting up a proper work space at home. Robbie decided that learning to touch type (via record) was a priority (Also worth noting that i’ve been able to touch type since I was about 15- best skill I’ve ever learnt!) Unfortunately I don’t own a funky typewriter like the one in the picture but do own a funky phone. (Bernie)

01.01.2022 Today is the first United Nations International Day of Conscience. It’s a day to remind us to self-reflect, follow our conscience and do the right things. The Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL) is encouraging people across the globe to share positive messages with family and friends. ... With the rapid spread of the coronavirus, conscience is especially important. The kind sharing of positive messages and energy from each individual will contribute greatly to global stability and peace. So, take a moment today to stop, breathe and reflect. You could even try out this box-breathing technique that helps calm nerves and relieve stress. First, empty your lungs of air. Slowly inhale for 4 counts Hold the breath for a count of 3 Slowly exhale for 4 counts Hold the breath for a count of 3 Repeat the cycle up to 4 times (If you're pregnant, skip the holding breath parts)
