24.01.2022 *Frenchman Peak* We were lucky enough to be down south in January visiting Cape Le Grand National Park. As my husband loves walking, we found Frenchman Peak, a relatively child friendly hike up the side of a granite dome. Along with the fantastic views, there’s a cave at the top which entertained the children and plenty of interesting flowers and greenery to entertain me! [photos attached].... This was an exercise in painting what I see, and it was great fun. I’m going to keep it up for the next few projects and see how I go. 21.01.2022 * Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try * A first attempt at using my dip pen that I bought last month. I had been putting off giving it a go until I finally had some time to myself this morning. I picked up some Windsor and Newton Indian ink in black and a very basic dip pen with a few different nibs to try (on the advice of the very friendly team at @jacksonsdrawingsupplies). I’m not sure what I was afraid of but I guess I had become so used to using the... Sakura fine liners that I was worried about how it would turn out.... Anyway, as always, I have lots of learn but I absolutely love the effect. The ink is really smooth to use and I love how deep the colour is. I had fun making this monochromatic flower and that is the main object of the game! Do any of my followers use this ink? What are your top tips when using a dip pen? 05.01.2022 There are always flowers for those who want to see them ... * * * This couldn’t be more true for me right now! I can’t go anywhere without noticing flowers. And what is great about living in Perth is that there are some really unusual looking wildflowers in WA. The next painting I’ve planned will be of the flowers I spotted on a walk last week. The end is up to you. * * * My first wildflower meadow. ... * I’ve been meaning to try a loose watercolour painting for a while now, but have so far managed to put it off. I was worried about how it would turn out without pre-planning what I was painting and especially without using any pencil markings as a guide. I’m pretty pleased with the result, and excited to keep practicing and see what else I can do. I’m going to be focusing on wildflowers which I have always loved.
