25.01.2022 It’s shout out time to some totally amazing 28 Days In Flowers 2019 participants. First shout out goes to this gorgeous ray of sunshine. My dear friend @miss_thea40 was a very dedicated flower wearer this last month. In fact so dedicated that she was a close second for the award of Socials Influencer thanks to her regular posts. Each one was so encouraging, with such a joyous energy. She really took word of our cause to the streets and shared it with beautiful enthusiasm. Al...l while raising money at her workplace. Throughout the 28 days Thea sent me this message; ‘So I’m at Your Food Collective hub here at the Redhead Bowlo, an oldie dude comments on my flowers... I fill him in & he hands me 10 bucks!!!!! 19.01.2022 Our award for ’Most Creative Headpiece’ during 28 Days In Flowers 2019 goes out to this beautiful garden fairy and my dear friend Claire. Although I saw some truely beautiful headpieces this last month, none could be compared to this gorgeous piece. Made with dried natural materials from Claire’s garden (her happy place) this piece features gumnuts, feathers, and native flora, every piece chosen for it’s most delicate detail and beauty. And the most incredible part.... Clair...e chipped away at making this piece over a number of sessions using mostly just her left hand as her right was injured with badly damaged tendons from a recent accident, guess where?? In her garden. I absolutely love this piece and I love love love these photos. 18.01.2022 I’m not usually one to make controversial statements on social media. I think social media has a place for that when coming from an educational place but for me that’s not the hill I want to die on. However for me the time is right to share this small piece of information. This year I’m saying ‘Nup’ to The Cup. Big deal you say? I know right, it’s probable that hardly anyone even cares. But I do. It’s something that’s been on my mind for quite some years. Don’t get me wron...g I love a chance to dress up and wear an amazing headpiece more than most. And in previous years I’ve felt a great sense of achievement seeing my headpieces paired with amazing outfits on stage accepting best dressed awards. Melbourne Cup day is a time of the year when people are excited about over the top, sculptural headpieces and this sort of creating, if I’m honest is the type that keeps me inspired. So I’ve had many reasons to support and enjoy The Cup, but still I felt an undertone of discomfort. As I’ve matured, especially since realising I’d not have more babies, and even more so since welcoming a pet dog into the family I’ve noticed my attention to animals shift. It sounds bizarre and I wish I could say I’ve always felt this way but the fact is my respect and deep love for all animals has intensified so much these last few years. I just absolutely, whole heartedly love them so much. I see so much beauty in everything from the tadpoles my kids collect to the injured water dragon we met last week. And this love, of course extends to horses. And I really believe now thanks to campaigns against animal cruelty that horses have a pretty shit time when they’re kept and used for racing. I know there’ll be people out there who have race horses that receive 5 star lifestyles and that my statement may not speak for them all, but this year I’m choosing not to support a sport that sees animals beaten with whips, dying on the racetrack or being slaughtered when no longer profitable. And to my greatest pleasure I’ll be doing it dressed to the nines wearing a spring hat at a Newcastle based Nup To The Cup event and fundraiser for animal wellbeing. #justsayin #nuptothecup See more

Considering the very short time frame we worked within to get this year off the ground and the fact that we’ve never had an event like FLOWERS IN THE VINES before I am so bloody proud of us. And to Sam and Kate and the rest of the HRWWG crew thank you for our amazing brain storming meeting, and a wonderful injection of pure excitement in the beginning to get us off to a wonderful start and for enabling us to engage with your community. 14.01.2022 Day 20 of 28 Days In Flowers, and hopefully a majorly memorable day for our children. Today despite the fact that my legs hurt and I’ve got a to do list just about long enough to put me into a world class anxiety spiral, I abandoned all commitment and kept the kids home from school to attend the Global Climate Strike. Being there with my kids just felt bigger than Freya’s party prep for tomorrow, bigger than the tantrums before getting out the door, bigger than my stupid weak... legs. And it was big! It was really warm, really loud, and mega crowds, things my kids usually don’t cope very well with. But Man!! I’m so freaking glad we did it. What a wonderful experience for our children to see big kids out there taking responsibility for our planet. What a way to normalise that sort of beautiful, peaceful protest for them, gearing them up for a future where they’re probably going to need it. And what an epic way to show them just how many people believe in change. I was proud today to be a parent of this next generation of kids. 12.01.2022 Happy Day 26 of 28 Days In Flowers. Our beautiful playgroup family celebrated today by foraging our gardens and creating these gorgeous fresh flower crowns. All while making gold coin donations to the wellness of women at the Hunter Region Working Women’s Group. Thank you for your support Garden Elves Playgroup. I’m always grateful to be part of this community and even more so on days like today. Finding the right playgroup family when you’re home with children can literally ...be life changing. The difference between feeling isolated or connected. I missed out on that connection with my first born. I think the truth is that my own anxiety stopped me from having the authentic connections I needed. I worried so much about being perceived as ‘perfect’ that I didn’t allow myself to be vulnerable around anyone. I was self judging so much that the thought of being judged by others was just too much so I didn’t do a lot of Mummy Life socialising. I have no doubt that my mental health suffered because of it. But life has a funny way of teaching you the lessons you need. The silver lining of having been ill on and off over the last couple of years is that ‘perfection’ is no longer in my vocabulary. So to speak. And being vulnerable has been completely unavoidable at times. I’ve had no choice but to accept help in getting the kids to school and with family meals and so much more. And I realised that no one was judging. In fact they were happy to help. And the more vulnerable I was with them, the more vulnerable they felt they could be with me. And it’s a whole new world when you can ‘just be’ with people without worrying all the time that they’ll discover that you’re not perfect. Now friends are welcome at my house even if the floors are filthy with dog hair and toast crusts, I’ll chat and hug at the school gate even if I’m still in my PJ’s with morning breath and I’ll go to playgroup even if Miss 5 is so tired that she’s behaving like a little wildling.
