24.01.2022 This might be one of the coolest, most interesting, and beautiful photos I've ever taken of fire, and @thomasrobinsonfire of course. I spend a lot of my time trying to shoot the moments that you might not know exist. Like the secret bubbles, the way fire crashes like a wave as it transfers to a wick, the minute flash of blue before the flame glow gold. This feels like one of those moments and to me it looks like fine art. I love it.

23.01.2022 I haven't spent a lot of time behind my camera at all lately, mostly because I've been doing all sorts of other things. 22.01.2022 Sometimes even if you catch a little bit of an awkward moment in someone's spinning trajectory, it can still look absolutely boss if you grade it right. Luckily @hey_gracey flow face is solid model mode so even when she's learning a new prop mid shoot she looks divine!

19.01.2022 I think my favourite thing about images like this is that in the end they always come out looking effortless. They appear to be plucked quickly and painlessly out of the void, the moment easy to create, the image perfectly awaiting your capture. In reality, these kind of shots are bloody awful to get. This one went relatively smoothly but my goodness did we have to do a lot of experimentation and repetition to get the vapour perfectly lit, the composition just right (because... every time I recomposed we had to redo the lights), and of course the shutter timing right - I only shoot on an a7rii or a7sii, they're both fast, but vapour lighting is faster. Oh, and I almost forgot the absolute nightmare which is editing three images with very different light levels and white balance such that they look cohesive in a sequence! This of course only covers my portion of effort. On @thomasrobinsonfire's part things have the added complication of also being really bloody hot. To get vapour to flow out this clearly and densely he needed to alter his technique and repeat it perfectly time and time again all while keeping his face looking nice - no flow face allowed here. Thankfully, the daemon genius (this is in reference to Elizabeth Gilberts "Your elusive creative genius - watch it) goddess of fire photography gave us 2 minutes of her time that night and I was lucky enough to experience yet another Olè moment in fire photography. Go us, this is wonderful.

17.01.2022 Today is VP Day, the Day Japan surrendered and for Australian's signalled the end of World War 2. I spent the morning at the Darwin Military Museum learning about it and watching the re-enactments. This was one of them, just incredible.

16.01.2022 So last night @thomasrobinsonfire and I had the absolute pleasure of seeing #inmotion at the Darwin Entertainment Centre thanks to the freaking fabulous pair in this shot, Sarah & Kyle. Backstory: A month or so ago I did a quick shoot with these two to get a promo shot for their Darwin Fringe Festival closing night show (TONIGHT). I have never laughed as much at a shoot as I did with these guys, they are pure hilarity and minimalistic chaos. Anyway, to say thanks for the shot... they invited us to last night's In Motion. Let me tell you, that was the best post shoot thank you I've had in a while. The whole show was AMAZING!! Between absolutely losing it with laughter at Sarah and Kyle's hilarious take on covid life, to listening to the sweet sounds of Darwin Symphony Orchestra soloists, watching SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre tell a gorgeous sweet story of a bull that loves to smell flowers, finishing up crying with laughter thanks to Amy Hetherington - Comedy killer set, and possibly making a total fool of myself because I am not a quiet cackler, we had a BALL! P.s. Thanks Amy for reassuring me my unrestrained giggling is an asset! Big thanks to the incredible artists and the Entertainment Centre for creating such amazing work. Being local darwin artists ourself there is no night out better than watching other amazing local artists create new magic and you all nailed it! P.p.s. 15.01.2022 On my way to catch this incredibly dramatic sunset tonight I watched a man propose and his partner say yes. It was adorable. Here's to the couple and their beautiful sunset. P.s. No, I didn't get their picture, but he caught it all on his drone. It was adorable to watch from afar. She didn't stop hugging him for so long.

14.01.2022 I know almost everyone else had an awful year, and that is terrible, sad, and just plain sucky, but I really enjoyed 2020. Like really enjoyed it. It's been amazing. This year I moved into a brilliant job with even more fabulous people, up-skilled in so many ways, made amazing and beautiful art with my best friend (@thomasrobinsonfire ), spent a full season performing at my favourite market in the world, shot gorgeous local work, stayed safe and healthy, made new friends,... found even more new hobbies, read so many great books, went home on time for 6 months straight(!!!), got my garden back, made more friends, and got the confirmation of three more beautiful years in the best city on earth. This year was wonderful for me, and I hope next year is even better. And if your 2020 was awful, I hope 2021 is an infinite improvement!

The latest addition to our vintage family, this beautiful copy of the Jupiter-9 85mm f2 was finally delivered yesterday and it is divine. So sharp, such gorgeous bokeh, I am in love! Thanks to Mulan, our current foster baby for being such a great model too

07.01.2022 So I really put our new Jupiter-9 mc 85mm f2 vintage soviet lens to the test by shooting my beautiful new friends @anetlacinova and @valdisov. Shooting fire on a 40year old manual focus lens is usually a nightmare but this, this was INCREDIBLE. The bokeh is divine, it's sharp, there is virtually no haze, it's great wide open, the focus ring is just the right amount of smooth - it's magic. I am absolutely floored by how gorgeous this lens is and I still cannot believe I scored it for only $150. Vintage glass man, way of the future.
