25.01.2022 Tough conditions - sweltering temps, low clear water, bushfire ash affected stream. But the lads still bagged some nice bass up to about 40cm on both floating & sinking flies.

23.01.2022 What to do when you can't be in a stream....tie a few flies. These are a variant on the New England Yabbie pattern, first tied by Dr Robert Pidgeon, Dept of Zoology, University of New England. The pattern is recorded in Fur and Feather Fly Tying for Trout. These are designed for New England and provide another choice when nymphs and dry flies are not getting takes.

23.01.2022 Been guiding for 27 years, but have only taken a GoPro for about the last 5, so lots of moments missed, but here are some recent ones.

22.01.2022 Back chasing Murray Cod on fly last week.

20.01.2022 Welcome to Fly Fish New England. David and Philip specialise in guided fly fishing and lure fishing trips in the beautiful New England region of New South Wales, Australia. Head to our Services page for more details on our guided fishing trips: https://www.facebook.com/pg/FlyFishArmidale/services/

17.01.2022 Another winter session on these slippery characters.

17.01.2022 Another winter carp, on one of our winter flies. This one fought hard & dirty, wrapped me around a branch.

16.01.2022 With covid cabin fever taking hold David and I went to check out the winter cod fishing in the New England. Recently I went through my fly box and took off all the hook barbs. I have been meaning to do this for a while but with the cod population clearly under pressure from drought, reducing the chance of stress on hooked fish was a priority. Of course this means that fish that you don't keep line pressure on will get off. That happened two out of the 3 times I hooked a fish on Sunday. One of the hooked cod threw the hook with a leap out of the water - extraordinary!! Take a look at the video where we managed to get footage of the last fish of the day. Winter cod on fly guiding - for sure! https://youtu.be/k8DyRR0nigU

16.01.2022 Bagged a nice little 50cm cod on a bellyscratcher fly on my way home from Tenterfield today. 10m in front of where I parked the car, after spending 2hrs walking/casting upstream

15.01.2022 New England cod, fooled by one of the flies we tie for local conditions.

15.01.2022 A nice New England Brown who fell to a dry fly

15.01.2022 Took a little trip out of the area and went salty in the Broadwater, with a mate showing me around. Had a great time, just before the flood, and picked up some flathead and a Taylor on weighted Crazy Charlies and little baitfish streamers. Spent a lazy morning drifting over the flats.

15.01.2022 Phil & I were Hiking around Cod's Country yesterday, searching out new spots for our clients.

13.01.2022 This provides some hope for a renewed trout recreational fishery - FFNE looking forward to guiding our New England streams again.

12.01.2022 Trout, bass and if there is a cod there we will find it for you. That little cod is a good sign for the future.

11.01.2022 Here is a memory from a day of guiding for a couple that got a good bass each on lures. A great day was had by all in some beautiful country. Looking forward to taking someone else on this adventure.

09.01.2022 Took a look after the drought and fires and it was a pleasant surprise to find some small cod very keen on taking our home-made flies. Great to see some water in the rivers in New England

08.01.2022 After 7 attempts, and many many hours of failure, I nailed the subtleties of fooling winter carp on fly today. Catching them in summer is tricky. Catching them in winter is like getting a summit on Everest! #1 accuracy....crazy precise accuracy, must be inches perfect #2 fly movement #3 depth #4 fly colour

06.01.2022 The new carp fly ties work well.....but the 9.5lb tippet was not enough in most cases. https://youtu.be/Bgn90taJMa8

06.01.2022 This location had a massive cod kill in August due to the drought. Seeing what is left. Population severely dented, but still a few about, not that they were playing ball for me. Got to say hello to my pet cod however. Why this little guy did not move out of his tiny landlocked slot in the rocks and move into a bigger hole when the stream flooded last month is an interesting question. Might have to bring him a few snacks without a hook in them next visit to keep the poor little fella going

06.01.2022 Checking out the post drought & bushfire bass situation.

05.01.2022 Bass on fly (and we also do lure trips for this species). Of all the species we guide clients on, I find bass the most fickle.

04.01.2022 You're gonna need a bigger net! Carp on fly from Keepit today. This thing went off like a cruise missile once hooked. Thought the 6wt rod might break. There are some who think carp are not a worthy fly target. Today we came across several feeding right up in the shallows with their backs showing. But if you did not get the fly right in front of their nose, casting from a fair distance out, it was all over.

04.01.2022 Well if you were wondering if there was any point fly fishing for Cod following drought, fires and floods, the answer is yes! Caught and released four cod on our guiding water today, all about this size. A great 'passive exercise' day.

04.01.2022 A little Tassy action this week.

02.01.2022 Bass caught on one of our homemade lures

01.01.2022 Try to get to NZ at least once a year to brush up the skills on their wiley brown trout. A short video from last season.
