22.01.2022 Recently we had the privilege of holding onto this beautiful red Fox Bat in the Smartair hangar for Praneel Kumar for the week. It caught the eyes of anyone entering the hangar as they were all intrigued at getting a closer look.

21.01.2022 The final reveal has come with the Piper Archer VH-SDW. Our maintenance team have been working around the clock to restore and upgrade the machine and what a fabulous job our team have done! All-new upholstery has been installed with the colours complimenting the new interior plastics' colour after being updated with a fresh coat of paint. The windscreens have been replaced and the horizontal stabiliser reinstalled after its repaint. All the new LED lights have been tested, and the overhauled magnetos have been installed. This bird is ready to be returned to its proud owners.

Congratulations this time goes to Justin Keane who recently finalised transitioning his RA-AUS flying certificate across to a Recreational Pilots licence. Justin methodically worked with both Instructor’s Richard and Khaled from late 2019 to now managing family commitments, business and travel, bushfires and COVID-19. Instructor Khaled and Richard stated that Terence was extremely committed to achieve this aviation milestone by comprehensively understanding the aircrafts systems and performance characteristics, which were all demonstrated at his check flight on Saturday. 06.01.2022 Congratulations to Karl Kloppenborg who finished off his RPL navigation over the weekend with Instructor Khaled. Some fairly stunning photos of isolated showers during his journey around Wagga Wagga and his approach back into ABX.

06.01.2022 The NVFR theory component will introduce you to Night Visual Flight Rules' fundamental concepts linking directly with the CASA Night Vision Flight Rule syllabus. In this course, our instructors will brief you thoroughly on all of the aspects that will be learnt during night training in the aircraft, including an hour in our CASA approve synthetic trainer and sitting an in house NVFR exam. The course outline will be run in the evenings from 6:00 pm, concluding at 7:30 pm and i...s as follows: Session One Basic Instrument Flight (1.5 hours) Session Two Navigation Aids (1.5 hours) Session Three NVFR Circuits (1.5 hours Session Four Navigation Planning (1.5 hours) Session Six Synthetic trainer exercise [NDB & VOR Intercepts] (1.0 hours) Session Seven Night VFR exam (2 hours) Total Price $500.00 plus GST This course's upcoming dates are the 27th/29th of April and the 4th/6th/11th/13th/14th of May. 05.01.2022 PROJECT NLG An exciting step in the NLG development was completed today by our Maintenance team. After the work to create the new hole configuration on the floor, the Cessna 206 today was balanced and tested for weight. This is an essential step that needs to be completed before airwork testing.

04.01.2022 What a glorious day Melbourne Cup day was (tuesday), especially for an RPL Navigation and CTA/CTR Airspace endorsement flight. Here's a pic Instructor Richard took as his student positioned themselves for a right base on RWY 30. Richard stated that is it not that often you can get such a beautiful CAVOK day in the Nations Capital.

03.01.2022 Wow WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER !!! This is what "taxi to parking" and a first solo smile looks like for Tony Maddern. Hard work and persistence paid off on Friday afternoon. In overcast and calm conditions Tony flew the perfect solo circuit in VH-AYD . Instructor Richard said "his approach, round-out, flare and touchdown was precise. I didn't even hear the rubber touch the tarmac". Bravo Tony from us all at Smartair.

03.01.2022 Our much loved and well used Tomahawk PA38 model has been in for its 100 hourly and had its elevator assembly reattached! Our past and present aviation students would all be familiar with the damage it has been nursing for some time. She is now back in action until the next round of routine maintenance.
