25.01.2022 We are delighted to receive the support from our partner Iress through their Global Hackathon. Winning teams donated some of their prize money to support the work of Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife in Australia. Pre-COVID, we visited the Iress Sydney office to share the experiences of wildlife carers who have been nursing injured wildlife back to health after the devastating Australian bushfires. Our thanks to Iress for their continued support of bushfire recovery. #healingourland #wildlifeheroes #iress #fnpw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5QeZxgw2AY&feature=youtu.be

24.01.2022 Gift a Tree (4 of 12) . In FNPW’s 50th year, your support enabled us to launch Healing our land in response to the bushfires. In April FNPW announced a national project to plant one million trees in Bushfire Recovery Nurseries. These nurseries will grow tree species that have been lost in the bushfires and will regenerate areas that were damaged. . Follow @parks_foundation as we continue to share this story... . 24.01.2022 The Wildlife Heroes Project is helping to support the physical and mental health of wildlife carers today on RU OK? Day and every other day. The Wildlife Heroes Project has partnered with the charity Two Green Threads to help care for the health of Australia’s 15,000+ wildlife carers. Two Green Threads is a registered charity with a mission ‘to empower and energise the lives of those that care for wildlife. It’s founder Suzy Nethercott-Watson says, ‘wildlife care makes huge ...demands on people’s mental and physical resources. Carers need to replenish their reserves and build mental fitness to avoid burnout or dropout.’ Visit the Two Green Threads website or Facebook page to access resources, help, webinars and podcasts: https://www.facebook.com/twogreenthreads https://twogreenthreads.org/ #wildlifeheroes #ruok #ruokday #fnpw

23.01.2022 7 September is Threatened Species Day and today we would like to highlight the work of our project partner Kanangra-Boyd to Wyangala Link and the Petaurus Connections project. Petaurus Connections focuses on 3 species- The Squirrel glider, spotted-tailed quoll and Scarlet Robin. The Squirrel glider (Petaurus norfolcensis), which along with the Spotted-tailed quoll (Dasyurus maculatus) and Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang) are all listed as threatened species in NSW and have b...ecome the focus of a NSW Government Saving our Species (SoS) initiative aimed at securing threatened species in the wild for 100 years. The project is located in the Upper Lachlan shire around the Crookwell Reserves of Keverstone, Gillindich, Nuggetty, Burwood Creek and Razorback and the incorporating the villages of Tuena and Bigga. This area has been identified as an important connection within the K2W conservation area and will add to the work that is already being undertaken through Glideways in the Wombeyan/Mares Forest, Abercrombie River, and Copperahania/Neville districts to improve and reconnect habitat for gliders between the Blue Mountains and Wyangala Dam. Named after the charismatic Squirrel Glider, Petaurus Connections will engage ecologists to work alongside Field Naturalists and community members to undertake a comprehensive study of the project area helping to bridge knowledge gaps and provide a record of species (particularly our targets) and assess the habitat condition and the threats so that we have a good baseline to get started. We will also be working with landholders offering training and incentives to enhance and protect habitat, manage pest and weeds, for fencing and revegetation works, and ongoing monitoring. The work that we will be doing to secure the future for our threatened species will also benefit a host of other species and improve biodiversity and productivity across the region. The Kanangra-Boyd to Wyangala Link Glideways is a community led partnership that has been awarded funding for Petaurus Connections through the NSW Government Saving our Species (SoS) program and co-funded and supported by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife. #threatenedspeciesday #SavingourSpecies #K2W #fnpw

23.01.2022 It's Flannel Flower Friday at FNPW! We hope this beautiful flower will help you get through the day and start your weekend off on the right note. This beautiful native flower can be found from the south coast of NSW up to south-east QLD and there is evidence that the flannel flowers germination is increased after the presence of bushfire smoke. So if you are out and about this long weekend keep an eye out for their blooms in areas that were impacted by fires last year. ... These waterers are a practical, low maintenance, and safe solution to supplying regular fresh water for our precious native birds, including the endangered Carnaby’s and Forest Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos that roost and feed in the area.
