24.01.2022 This week is National Child Protection Week which will celebrate its 30th year with the theme: `Putting Children First'. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and well being of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. For children to thrive we need to come together as a community and put children’s needs first during National Child Protection Week and every week. 02.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week and throughout the week we are using our Facebook page to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that inspire our team here at FocusOne Health. Today Kate McNaughton, FocusOne Health and headspace Berri Clinician has nominated both Aretha Brown and Dujuan Hoosan to highlight and celebrate. Kate says:... Aretha Brown (Gumbaynggirr person) inspires me because they are passionate about Indigenous rights, and use their platform to educate and pressure our government to make change. They are also a talented artist- having had their art exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria last year. Oh, and they were the youngest person ever to be elected as the Prime Minister of the National Indigenous Youth Parliament in 2017! Dujuan Hoosan (Arrente/Garrwa) is another person who inspires me - at only 12 years old he gave a speech at the United Nations urging Australian governments to raise the age of incarceration of young people (from 10 to 14 years of age). He has used his voice to share the experience of young First Nations people, and is passionate about changing our justice system. Earlier this year Aretha started a YouTube channel sharing her work, you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tes_-QMf2Ig And Dujuan is also the star of critically acclaimed film In My Blood It Runs. You can find out more about the film and where to watch it here: https://inmyblooditruns.com/ #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

02.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week and all week we have been using our Facebook page to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that inspire our team here at FocusOne Health. For the final day of NAIDOC week, Megan headspace Berri Clinician and Youth Access Worker has nominated Danzal Baker (aka Baker Boy). Megan says: I first heard his music on Triple J and thought it was incredible, unlike anything I had heard on the radio before. He has won multiple awards for his mu...sic, and he won the Young Australian of the Year Award in 2019. You can read more about Baker Boy here: https://www.abc.net.au//baker-boy-wants-indigenou/12622776 and listen to his music here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6Qpa8xhGsGitz4WBf4BkpK. He inspires me because he is an amazing role model and advocate for Aboriginal young people who is using his platform for a lot of good. Although NAIDOC week finishes today, here at FocusOne Health we are continually inspired by the courage, strength, generosity and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the country. We are all learning together and would like to say a special thank you to Elders past and present in the Riverland for their continued custodianship of lands, waters and community. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe
