Here's some information that may help you with that decision. Location - as SMP is a 3 session treatment, you will want an artist at a reachable location. For some clients, their focus is on the artist, and they are happy to travel for the right artist. ... Cost - as the saying goes, "cheap work ain't good and good work ain't cheap". This doesn't mean you have to pay a premium price but be aware of super cheap prices. The artist - always ask to see pictures of the artists work. Each artist has a different approach to SMP, seek out artists whose work you like. Have consultations with a few different artists, see who you feel comfortable with. Experience - SMP is a skill that improves with experience however, that doesn't mean all new artists will deliver a bad job. There are new up and coming artists who are excellent. Ask questions--don't be afraid to ask the artist of their experience and ongoing training. This industry is evolving and artists should be attending on going training as well as conferences to upgrade their skill. Transparency - professional artists and studios will be transparent about the pigment and equipment they use. They should be able to provide you with a MSDS for the pigment, if required. Infection control - a professional artist will have completed an Infection prevention and control for skin penetration course. The studio should have a Health Department certification and be clean.
