24.01.2022 What will you do today? 80% of eating has nothing to do with true tummy hunger. Create a list of non-food things to do. When the mood strikes, you can quickly find something else to do instead of eat. Deal with the mood without food. It can be hard to come up with ideas in the midst of mood mayhem and that's why a list helps. Share your ideas of things to do - we all need a little help at the moment.
24.01.2022 Yup ... this little clip cleverly shows how it is easy to become confused about what to eat and jump from one eating plan to another (they are no longer called diets because 'diets are bad'). A single letter has transformed the language of the diet industry from a fixation on fat to a focus on fit. You can't have fitness without a healthy diet. In this respect, diet is not a bad word. Diet means the "range of foods habitually eaten by a person or animal". Diet comes from the Greek word diaita which means way of life. My award-winning books cut through the clutter of misinformation and help you create lasting change with a healthy diaita.
24.01.2022 10 a week. 4 a day. New alcohol guidelines released just in time for the silly season recommend no more than 4 standard drinks on any one day and no more than 10 standard drinks a week for healthy adults. What do you think about those numbers?
20.01.2022 This is not the time to be a food snob. Not everyone can get groceries delivered. Not everyone can shop daily. Frozen vegetables as well as dried and canned vegetables are an important source of nutrition when fresh is not an option. Be flexible.

18.01.2022 Experts suggest to avoid bringing shopping bags into the home and, if worried about the source, to stick with food that can be cooked, peeled or washed in mild soapy water, and thoroughly rinsed. Be more careful than ever with food handling and cleaning. Read more at https://theconversation.com/we-know-how-long-coronavirus-su

15.01.2022 Incredible, this is a true FACT. Although seafarers of the 1700s knew that oranges and limes helped prevent scurvy, no-one knew what was in fruit that was protective. It took close to 200 more years before the mysterious protective compound was isolated and named. We now know it as vitamin C. Both fruit and other vitamin C rich foods do much more than protect against scurvy. #vitamin #fruit
15.01.2022 Milks that last longer. If you can not get UHT long-life milks from your shop, have these back-up choices at home in case you need to enter isolation. You won't be able to pop out to the shop for fresh milk. 1. Powdered milk. Only make up enough to suit your immediate needs. Mix 1 measure of powder with 3 measures of water to make milk. Cover and chill. When you add powdered milk straight into tea and coffee you’ll find that the drink stays hotter for longer because your are n...ot adding cold milk. 2. Evaporated milk. Once the can is opened, keep the milk in the fridge and use within a couple of days. If power is out, reserve evaporated milk for times when lots of milk is needed, for example on breakfast cereal or for kids drinks. Mix equal parts water and evaporated milk to make milk or pour it straight from the can. Nutritionally, these are good as real fresh milk for protein, calcium and energy. Low fat and skim versions match low fat skim fresh milk's nutrition profile. Their flavour is quite different to fresh and long-life liquid milk. You may want to use fresh milk and liquid long-life milk for drinks and leave powdered and evaporated milk for sauces, soups, custards and desserts.
14.01.2022 Thanks Dee Alexander for this gem on how to wash your hands properly. Alcohol based gels are no substitute for good hand washing.

11.01.2022 Got a spare moment? Here are 4 ideas that add to your health: Please add your suggestions as a comment. 1. Stand up right now while you are reading this. Get off your bottom and move around every 20 to 30 minutes for better metabolic health. 2. Clear the dining table. A messy table doesn't make for relaxed happy dining. Keep work away from the dining area. 3. Plan a fortnight's menu. A planned menu makes it easier to eat well at all times, especially in isolation. Less freque...nt shopping, less exposure to you know what. 4. Tackle kitchen clutter, one bench top, one cupboard at a time. Less kitchen clutter makes it easier to prepare and cook. Less stuff lightens your mental load. What are you doing today with your free momentsshop?
