17.01.2022 Today Sunday 8th November is the first day of NAIDOC Week for 2020. Normally held in July each year, NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we meet and play on, the Whadjuk people. We wish to acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. This year's theme is - Always W...as, Always Will Be. "Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Always Was, Always Will Be, acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future." https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2020-theme

Players are asked to wear One normal Club sock and one odd sock of their choice during games this weekend. A gold coin donation is encouraged from all players who participate or alternatively if you follow the website link, donations can be made there. Below paragraphs copied directly from the Sock it to Sarcoma website. https://www.sockittosarcoma.org.au//odd-socks-footba...ll-ro/ "Australian Rules Football in Western Australia has played a massive role in creating awareness of sarcoma and its symptoms over the past few years. The tradition continues this year with players from Auskick all the way up to the West Coast Eagles donning the odd socks in an effort to shine a light on the importance of being aware of symptoms and finding a cure. Sarcoma is one of the most common forms of cancer in young people so it is particularly relevant for young sports people to be aware of any odd lumps, bumps, aches or pains anywhere in the body that may persist longer than a few weeks and having them checked by a GP as early as possible".
