24.01.2022 The Element Sails teams are at the SA Summer of Sail for the next few days. Lots of wind forecast with Tornados (running an Element kite, F18s, F16 and Nacra 5.8s all sharing a course. Should be a good few days

24.01.2022 Thank you Andrew.

24.01.2022 LAKE BONNEY CLASSIC DINGHY REGATTA 6-7 MARCH 2021. The inaugural classic dinghy regatta at Lake Bonney was a fantastic success despite the potential threat of... border closures keeping our numbers down. The venue was perfect for classic dinghies with a huge stretch of lawn for rigging and displaying our boats, a cement launching ramp for larger and heavier boats, a large expanse of deep water, easy launching straight off the lawn and club members who were so friendly, helpful and supportive. We really appreciated the efforts that the Lake Bonney club members made to make us feel welcome and to also spend time digging up old photos from the early days of the club. A gallery of photos and a video from last weekend, mostly taken on the first day of sailing when we had a very light breeze is attached below plus photos from the early days of the club taken in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. Seeing Vee Jays at the club after an absence of 59 years brought back a lot of memories for the older club members. The younger members had heard of Vee Jays and seen faded photos of them but had never actually seen one so they were most interested to see them up close. There was just as much interest in seeing Rainbows, Moths and Gwens reappear after so many years. We hope to have some Heavyweight and classic Lightweight Sharpies at our future events there because Lake Bonney YC was a big Sharpie club and held a number of major events there. Some photos of them have been included here. The club was founded in 1946 with a fleet of Vee Jays and Vee Esses. Heavyweight Sharpies were introduced in 1949 and gradually replaced the Vee Esses and the Jays died out in 1962 and Rainbows took over. The club had a fleet of Holdfast Trainers for juniors from 1959 and we were pleased to see one of them rigged and on display. There are still some in the boat racks so we hope to see a few of them on the water next time. They are one of the few South Australian designed classes so it’s great to see them at a South Australian classic dinghy event. Gwens, Moths and even 14 footers have sailed at the club as well as a number of Charlie Cunningham designed cats and we would welcome any Quickcats or Yvonnes next time as well. From the 1970’s the club sailed fleets of trailer-sailers and cats, 125’s and Windsurfers among other classes and many state and national championships have been held on the lake. Our thanks once again to the members of Lake Bonney YC for hosting us and we hope to return annually to enjoy the wonderful venue. The video can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/19ExUcPhR8w Photos kindly provided by Rene Schroeder who provided the drone, Chris Stevens and his mother who provided the historic photos, Robin Dunk, Richard Gibson, Vicki Fry, John Fairfax and others.
