23.01.2022 I wanted to round out this series on stress management with a helpful clip that highlights Coping is for everyone. If we can connect, care and collaborate with others to reduce psychological distress then we will eventually have healthier families and communities.

21.01.2022 Exercise is the most underutilised stress reliever in our sedentary culture. Research backs up what we know all know intuitively about exercise. It releases those feel good hormones called endorphins which help your brain to fire smoothly. Sort of like using premium fuel rather than plain old 91 octane. Too often we feel too tired and stressed to exercise. Yet it is an important tool to help reduce stress! Gladstone has a great range of opportunities to get involved with sporting clubs or groups that value exercise. I have been involved with many in the Gladstone area over the last 30 odd years. In the comments I invite you to plug your favourite group, gym, or club as a way to show others whats out there in the Gladstone community!

15.01.2022 The wrong sorts of foods can be a cause and a symptom of increasing stress. To reduce stress look at cutting out CATS. Caffeine Alcohol Tobacco Sugars... This is easier to say than do. However, reducing CATS in your diet can support the long term management of stress. See more

13.01.2022 A major key in reducing stress is to get good sleep. Sleep hygiene is the term used to describe good sleep habits. Let me share with you my top three sleep hygiene habits supported by research: 1) Get regular. One of the best ways to train your body to sleep well is to go to bed and get up at more or less the same time every day, even on weekends and days off! This regular rhythm will make you feel better and will give your body something to work from. 2) Sleep when sleepy.... Only try to sleep when you actually feel tired or sleepy, rather than spending too much time awake in bed. 3) Bed is for sleeping. Try not to use your bed for anything other than sleeping and sex, so that your body comes to associate bed with sleep. If you use bed as a place to watch TV, eat, read, work on your laptop, pay bills, and other things, your body will not learn this connection. There is loads more to learn about sleep and recent studies continue to confirm the link between lack of sleep and stress, depression and other mental health issues.

12.01.2022 Stress comes at us like waves. Humans are designed to cope with stress and mostly its a healthy thing. Sometimes stress can be overwhelming and it can feel like you are stuck under waves and struggling to breath. The first step in coping is to identify what type of wave your dealing with. Is it a whitewash wave, a breaker wave or a tsunami? Daily hassles like too much laundry to do or running the kids to and fro from sports are whitewash, bigger struggles like relational conflict or work issues can be breakers and a tsunami can be the death of a loved one, divorce, transition to retirement or loss of a job. Sometimes we need help identifying and dealing with waves in our life. Reach out and ask for help.

08.01.2022 Welcome to found psychology. My name is Dave Roby and I am the founder and principal psychologist of found psychology. Found psychology affords me the opportunity to walk with families through uncertainty. Its in dark, scary and lonely places that we need someone to walk with us. Specifically, I am able to offer psychological assessment and treatment for adolescents and adults in the Gladstone area. I am probably like most other psychologists in town who can offer evidenced... based assessment and treatment in anxiety, depression, addiction, grief and loss, stress and anger management. However, most psychologists in town dont come from a trade background. My 7 years in the building industry prior to becoming a psychologist sets me apart from the rest. I have had a variety of life experiences that help me relate to real struggles, and as someone who has lived through Gladstones highs and lows I know there are people doing it tough. I am willing to listen. So even the tradies out there who need someone to talk with; I can help. Additionally, I am a registered teacher which gives me a unique perspective into attention and learning difficulties as well as child and adolescent issues. Found psychology is currently a solo practice and therefore, there are limited available places. Furthermore, found psychology supplements my fulltime employment in Gladstone schools. I am able to respond to enquiries and follow up for you outside business hours. I have been operating on Sunday afternoons between 1pm and 5pm. My goal is to return your message within 24 hours. Please click the send message button or email [email protected] to arrange an obligation free 15 minute chat with me.

03.01.2022 Thanks to Peter Davis Photography for making me look more professional! It was tough material to work with but we got there in the end. Peter Davis was a pleasure to work with.
