25.01.2022 Free concert streams on Facebook During the corona crisis, The Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam and fifteen other leading European classical concert halls collaborate for a unique digital programming: together they stream a different concert from their archive every night.

25.01.2022 India Hartley has been playing music since primary school. She’s performed at Spring Youth Music Festivals in the past, on guitar, percussion and voice I’ve been playing music since childhood, I don’t see it as a career, but I definitely want to experience music throughout my life 2020? There was so much expectation and then it all just dissolved.... I think we’ve come through it well, it’s been a learning experience: what do you do when you don’t know what’s going on? I hope people have learned to sit, to not have to do all the time, but sit and feel things, like a collective experience to slow down a little and just sit and know you are a part of something bigger than yourself. Walking in to the Windsong Pavilion is the most beautiful thing, just walking into the room you feel a sudden peace and mentors Kris and Tony from Beautifully Mad, they’re incredible. The workshops on songwriting and the process, how to get through the process, trust in the process, I’ve learned so much. I’m honoured to be a part of this whole project, and have the opportunity to sing and work with amazing people at this place. #youthmusic#musicresources#youngsinger#compositions#youthcompositions#creativeoutlet#music#onlinemusiclesson#onlinemusic#musiceducation#sydney#covid#youngpeople#orchestra#youthmusicfestival #springyouthmusic @1ndi_jay See more

24.01.2022 250 years ago this month, James Cook first sighted the Australian continent, and claimed it as British territory. But few of us have ever heard the story of thi...s moment as remembered by the first inhabitants of this land. The Yuin people of the NSW far south coast saw the Endeavour pass by offshore and knew that it was a sign of something not right. They lit smoke signals to warn people further up the coast. Djiringanj Yuin knowledge-holder Warren Ngarrae Foster was passed down the story of what his ancestors saw when the Endeavour sailed past Yuin Country, and shares it with great generosity. #WalkingTogether Video by Vanessa Milton and Carmen Pratap, footage of Gulaga Dancers by Dean Brosche, Grow the Music. 24.01.2022 Sonya Lifschitz will perform Robert Davidsons Stalins Piano at the Windsong Pavilion in October. We have adapted our forthcoming live performance program to ensure that live music will once again flow from Four Winds as we head into Spring. Restrictions allowing, we hope to welcome audiences in small numbers to the Windsong Pavilion. We will also create digital content from the performances and make that available on-line after the event. So even if you are not able to at...tend in person you will still be able to see some wonderful musicians performing at Four Winds. We are planning a season of three Windsong Series concerts. For obvious reasons there are still some details to iron out but our plans include welcoming Timo-Veikko Valve, Principal Cello of the Australian Chamber Orchestra; pianist Sonja Lifschitz with her amazing project Stalins Piano in which the original virtuosic score for solo piano by Robert Davidson melds with orations from the likes of Bertolt Brecht, Goebbles, JFK, Ai Wei Wei, Stalin, Sontag, Gillard and Trump all of whom appear on screen throughout the performance. The Windsong Series will also feature a visiting ensemble yet to be announced! Joy at Christmas will be brought to you by the stunning, youthful voices of professional chamber choir Luminescence planned for 19 December 2020. We will have very limited tickets on sale for these events to ensure social distancing, so please watch your inbox for updates and on-sale dates. #sapphirecoastnsw Sapphire Coast NSW #sapphirecoast Visit NSW #FourWindsAU

15.01.2022 The Novellas are a band drawn together by singer-songwriter Myoung Jae Yi, a Korean ex-punk, song-writer, bookshop owner and avid reader here in the Bega Valley... His songs for The Novellas are spun from his mind post-reading sessions, where the characters and stories are grist for his mill. This Friday 20th November Myoung and The Novellas will present ‘Han’t-A’ - The Book Crusher’ a story about a Czech man charged with destroying books and living under an oppressive regim...e presented as part of the Great Southern Nights events for Australian Music Month. Han’t-A’ the character, played by actor Patrick Dickson, emerges from the text to present us with his dilemmas: are his thoughts his own or those left behind by all the books he’s consumed? His confusion and longing is set against Myoung’s smooth, stylish songs and playing by Myoung (guitar, vocals), Andrew Gray (piano and vocals), Josh Becker (double bass), Georgina Hargraves (saxophone, oboe, flute, clarinet), Joseph Fragnito (drums, vibes and percussion). Whilst we revel in the flavours and traditions of popular music, our take on them offers an alternative perspective, at once refreshingly new yet somehow familiar. Myoung Jae Yi

14.01.2022 Gift of a song | Ganbi A very special event has taken place in Bermagui Primary School. The gift of a new song Ganbi has been made from Four Winds Koori Choir Djinama Yilaga to the Indigenous children at the school. Ganbi was written by members of Djinama Yilaga during a residency led by acclaimed Indigenous singer-songwriter Lou Bennet. The Choir joined Lou for a creative weekend in Narooma just after the summer bush-fires, and before restrictions around Covid would h...ave prevented this song being created collaboratively. The song calls to all our family in nature; country, trees, birds and animals to be vigilant and look out for approaching fire. Lou and the Choir worked with linguist Trish Ellis to identify language for the song from a newly developed Dhurga dictionary. The process resulted in a song which is a direct response to the bush-fires. It also brought great joy to members of the Choir as they reconnected with their language. Like all good songwriters they hope the song will move audiences because of the significance of how, when and why it was created. The song has been gifted by members of Djinama Yilaga to Indigenous children in Bermagui Primary School so that they can learn and perform the song at the forthcoming Four Winds Youth Music Festival in November. Once the Indigenous children have learned it, they will gift Ganbi to the whole school so that everyone can learn and sing the song together. 06.01.2022 After the past months spent in quiet lockdown, music filled the Windsong Pavilion again as Amelie and Luca Ziino spent a few hours playing and recording in this beautiful space. Amelie and Luca have been involved with Four Winds for a number of years, we are thrilled when they take up opportunities to participate in or watch a masterclass and when they perform at the Spring Youth Music Festival. Last week Amelie recorded a program of pieces, accompanied by her brother Luca o...n the grand piano, for her AMEB Grade 7 Video Repertoire exam in violin. Her music selection included Telemanns Fantaisie No. 9; Romance, Second movement from Wieniawskis Violin Concerto No. 2, Op. 22, as well as Bartoks Bagpipers and Bear Dance. At 10 years old, Amelie has her sights set on her next exam hoping that Luca will once again be able to accompany her, while he also finishes his final year at school! Amelie is also excited about working on some new and fun pieces she would like to perform for us at the Spring Youth Music Festival in November. We wish her all the best in her endeavours! #FourWindsAU Photos by Sunny Gill

05.01.2022 Episode 1 - The Scottish Connection Welcome to the first of the Four Winds new series of videocasts. Im delighted to introduce you to Shetland fiddler Chris Stout who shares insights into his world and the traditions and influences of music from the Scottish Shetland Islands. Given that Four Winds is known for unique, collaborative performances it will come as no surprise that, even during lock-down, weve been able to make music together for this videocast. ... The first work we perform is a gorgeous Shetland traditional tune Da Trowie Burn. Chris explains the folkloric background to this beautiful tune before we perform it together. For the second collaboration in this episode we are joined by Catriona McKay (Scottish Harp) in a performance of a contemporary Scottish folk jewel - Louises Waltz composed by Catriona herself. She will also feature as a guest later in the series. Catriona and Chris were scheduled to perform at the Four Winds Easter Festival this year which of course was not possible. However we are looking forward to welcoming them to Four Winds in person for Easter 2020... so these online collaborations are a musical taster of whats in store next year with these fun-loving Scots! Its fair to say that Chris certainly brought out the Scottishness in me during the interview and I really hope that you enjoy our informal musings.
