21.01.2022 Canvases come to me in all shapes and layouts. This piece (approx 75x35cm) was bought in PNG. Having been in storage for a while, it was time to get it out on the wall. Unfortunately, when painted, the artist did not allow enough space around the edges for traditional stretching. To maintain its integrity and character as a canvas, the piece was float mounted using conservation mattboard. Stitched into place to ensure it does not move and glazed using ArtGlass70 (70% UV protection, 1% reflection), this playful and colourful canvas is now protected for life.

19.01.2022 I love taking the opportunity to head down to the beach with the dogs. Sometimes I’m even lucky enough to take some photos. And very occasionally I get the chance to have a little play with these photos when I get back.

19.01.2022 I love taking photos when I travel. But it frustrates me when I never enjoy them. I finally had this image of a dried lake near Swan Hill put onto canvas. But the finished stretch (done by the business that printed it) was disappointing. So instead I decided to frame it in a floating frame. This one is finished with a natural beeswax polish.

08.01.2022 Over the holidays I managed to find some time to complete a number of jigsaws. It was the perfect opportunity to hone my skills in mounting jigsaws for framing. Here you can see a cat that I completed (500 pieces). It was then glued together to ensure individual pieces dont fall out over time. This is now ready to frame. 04.01.2022 Much has changed in framing over the years. Importantly materials continue to improve. Recently a piece had be brought in for reframing. While not of financial value, it certainly had significant emotional importance. Thankfully damage from previous framing was only just starting to show through on the front of the work. ... But the following images show what can happen over time if incorrect framing is left too long. The chemicals in this tape has started to cause irreversible damage to this piece with brown marks appearing on the front. Some damage can not be fixed. Other damage can be minimised. If you notice a piece of artwork begin to deteriorate, please do not ignore it.

02.01.2022 When it all goes terribly wrong... Picture framers are placed in a unique position, working with items of all shapes and sizes, some of financial value but often of sentimental value. A quality picture framer will respect the honour of such a position and do everything in their power to ensure items in their care are treated with utmost respect, both during the framing process and for the generations to come. But sometimes this is not the case, and things can go terribly w...rong. A client recently brought in the following items that had be recently framed (by another framer). No respect has been shown for these items of great sentimental value and irreparable damage has been done. More money will need to now be spent in an attempt to minimise any further damage. When getting items framed and shopping around for quotes, please take the time to ask the framer how they plan to do their work, what materials they will use etc. A quality framer should set you at ease that your items are in the best hands and be able to give you a clear understanding of the processes they will use. Remember value for money is not just about the money..
