24.01.2022 With the support of the FGHS school Careers and Transition team and their teachers, students continue to achieve both academically and personally. A number of students have recently completed traineeships or gained full time employment. Congratulations to the following students: Zachary Freund, Ryan Warden, Sarah Ingram, Katrina Coppi-Keelan and Jemma Rudd-Furey ... Many more students are in the process of gaining guidance in a number of areas including: subject selections, career pathways, TVET courses, transition study options etc, to just general information on what is best for their future study patterns.



24.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 10 Commerce and Mrs Schmarr for their hugely successful ‘Running a Business’ event. Special thanks, once again, to our school community for their support of another exciting HSIE faculty initiative.

23.01.2022 Tomorrow Year 10 Commerce students will be running businesses at recess (first break) which include: sausage sizzle, cupcakes, muffins, cookies, assorted slices, ice cream, lollipops, ... guessing competition. Prices range from 50c to $3. All profits will be donated to charities such as Dolly's Dream and World Vision. We look forward to sampling the goodies and supporting this wonderful, learning by doing, event.

20.01.2022 Our school's second hand clothing pool is running very low on stock, as spring clean up season is just around the corner, we ask that families consider donating any decent quality uniform items. Donations can be left at Student Services.

19.01.2022 Next Wednesday 2nd September is Vaccination Round 2 for all Year 7 and some Year 10 students. There will also be catch ups for some Yr 8 students. Please ensure you are at school on time, eat an adequate breakfast and drink plenty of water before school.

18.01.2022 COLLABORATION BETWEEN TAS AND SCIENCE The creation of microscope covers was a successful venture between TAS and Science. Science would like to thank the teachers and students of the TAS faculty for providing much needed covers for the microscopes.... The microscopes are very happy!

17.01.2022 REMINDER for all students. Athletics Carnival is on tomorrow. In the event that the carnival is cancelled due to wet weather the school day will as normal for Tuesday Week A. The canteen will be closed. A sausage sizzle will still be available for purchase but it is suggested that students bring their own recess and lunch to school.

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Killara Drew who with the support of Kylie Burnett, Rob Penglaze and members of the Indigenous Support Team has been successful in gaining a school based traineeship in Business Services Cert 2. The traineeship is funded via the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant which adopts a number of strategies to develop and support Aboriginal people through the creation of training and employment opportunities, promoting diversity, innovation and service responsiveness in the NSW workforce. Killara has worked hard to be offered this opportunity and is the first at FGHS to benefit from this funding.

16.01.2022 Year 7 & Year 9 will be participating in NAPLAN from Tuesday, May 11. It is imperative that students bring their laptops to school everyday to enable them to complete the tests. If for any reason your child will be unable to bring their laptop, please contact Ms Lake, HT English on 4964 1282.

16.01.2022 The Rotary Clubs of East Maitland and Kurri Kurri will be holding a MEGA Garage sale and BBQ on Saturday 5 December from 8am-3pm at the Therry Centre East Maitland (73 King St just off NE Highway) Lots of quality clothing, apparel, household goods and plants on offer along with tasty treats from the BBQ. Bag a bargain, have a feed and help support our community!.... The funds raised will allow us to work with local schools to give disadvantaged local school children with a backpack full of basic essentials so they can have a better start to the 2021 school year.

16.01.2022 On Wednesday 9 December, some of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students participated in an ongoing Creative Arts opportunity with Maitland Regional Art Gallery and local member Jenny Aitchison. Students spent the day with local high schools at the gallery and created intricate designs and paintings on boomerangs which will be formally presented as citizenship gifts to welcome new Australians in 2021. This is a special memorial gift that will also acknowledge the student's names, their Indigenous nation and that the artwork was created on Wonnarua land. Thank you to Maitland Regional Art Gallery for hosting the activity, and Jenny Aitchison for encouraging our students with this heartfelt and respectful welcome to our country.

13.01.2022 In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. Schools will make arrangements for students who present as unwell or have flu-like symptoms to be sent home. Students with flu-like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to return to school.... NSW Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.

12.01.2022 Update for family and friends regarding Yr 12 Graduation We have asked students to arrive between 8:30am and 9:30am as they have their Graduation Gown to collect and their individual photo to be taken prior to the commencement of their presentation. We ask that family and friends arrive no earlier than 9:40am.... You will be required to present your completed COVID-19 form upon entry to the school grounds (MPC gate). You will then be asked to please take your seat in the MPC. Seating has been pre allocated as per our COVID - 19 seating plan. We look forward to celebrating with you, the Graduation of Yr 12, 2020.

10.01.2022 This week our Defence students, with the help of our Defence School Mentor gathered to put together Christmas packages for our Australian Defence Force members serving overseas. Here at Francis Greenway High School we have a large number of students with parents in the Australian Defence Force. Our students have a deep understanding of the importance of showing our support to other ADF members during the festive season. This is a difficult time for many of our members as the...y are unable to spend time with their loved ones. Our students hope that these packages can bring some joy to members this festive season. 05.01.2022 Francis Greenway High School is proud to have attended the launch of Maitland Community Drug Action Team’s (CDAT)- Community Education Project. Students of FGHS were involved in creating content for the project alongside Mental Health advocate Joe Williams and Dr Julian Keats, a specialist in addiction medicine. FGHS students created digital content covering the negative impact drug and alcohol use can have on our physical, emotional, and mental health as well as the impact ...on our relationships, our family and our community. This is aimed at breaking down the stigma of alcohol and drug use, and reducing the harm of alcohol and drug use in our community. Content can be viewed on the Maitland CDAT Facebook page.

05.01.2022 The 2021 Athletics carnival (which was cancelled Term 1 due to wet weather) has been rescheduled for Tuesday May 4 at the Maitland Athletics Centre. Students received their permission notes yesterday. If you child has already returned the permission note for the carnival set down for last term, you only need to complete the note that acknowledges the change of date. Permission notes can be returned to the PDHPE staff room. Additional permission notes are also available from... the PDHPE staff room. As buses have to be booked to transport students we would appreciate it if permission notes could be returned by Thursday. Lets hope the rain stays away.

05.01.2022 Advanced English students collaboratively planning conceptual analytical paragraphs in preparation for the Trial HSC English paper 2. Together, they collated textual evidence to support the 'big ideas' in their prescribed film.

04.01.2022 8A History enjoyed finishing up their Polynesian Expansion unit today by creating artefacts based on the Moai of Easter Island and other cultural icons from the region. The students engaged in this creative activity with great enthusiasm and enjoyment. Well done 8A!
