16.01.2022 This year Franklin School has begun our journey as a ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning’ school. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a framework that schools use to get everyone students, staff, families and the school community - on the same page to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. PBL is an international, evidence-based, whole school process which can be implemented in any school setting to support students from Pre-school throu...gh to Year 6. To start, schools create clear expectations and rules that use positive language, for example "Walk" instead of "Don't run". This is done for all areas across the school. Once everyone has agreed to the expectations at the school, a system is designed to acknowledge students for following the expectations. Some schools use tickets, some use tokens, others use electronic systems. We will let you know how we will do this at Franklin as the framework is developed. PBL includes families and students in decision making along the way. At Franklin School the PBL framework includes: Consistent behaviour expectations created in consultation with all stakeholders including students, staff and community members Consistent language and approaches to support positive behaviour choices Explicit lessons used to teach behaviour expectations with opportunities to practise appropriate behaviours in the classroom and on the playground Connection to our Dispositions Over term four, as we continue to develop this framework, we will be asking for your input as a community. Watch this space!
