24.01.2022 In truth, I have had a bit of a mixed relationship with my practice of late. Some days, like tonight it has felt deep, honest and therapeutic - on others days, I’m just going through the motions. But, I have also been practicing long enough to know that this is why it’s a ‘practice’ and not a ‘perfect’. ... Life is imperfect, everything has its ebbs and flows. The key is too keeping chipping along in the knowledge that this practice helps to keep me functioning in all aspects of my being, even when a little off kilter. #mumlife #yoga #prenatalyoga #postnatalyoga

20.01.2022 Connection This post is shared from one of my beautiful past students. There are so many benefits that Prenatal Yoga can give to a woman moving through this period of immense change : Physical support and relief, mental clarity, emotional release, specific preparation for actual birth to name just a few. But this: this amazing connection, friendship and building of a ‘village’ at a time when women most need the support from other women moving through the same experience is what most warms my heart!

17.01.2022 Life has been laying down some big challenges of late, and it’s got me all of a muddle . These times are humbling - reminding me that even with the tools and the skills the edges can start to fray and before long I can end up a pile of string rather then a well knitted jumper. Recommitting to more time seating in reflection (Meditation) rather then just making shapes (asana). Making steps to find those with the skills and knowledge to help fill in the blanks where I am comin...g up consistently short. . . . .#dailypractice #yoga #meditation #mumlife See more

17.01.2022 This is important! Using water through labour is an amazing tool and should NOT be taken away from birthing mothers... Posted @withregram @australianbirthstories Water in Labour By now you have probably heard that The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) has issued a statement this week denying women the use of water in labour. They see it as an infection control measure against COVID, regardless of the fact that there is no... scientific or medical evidence to support their claim. There are many common threads that weave themselves throughout the stories I share on the podcast and the use of water to soothe and comfort, alleviate pain and settle even the most anxious of labouring women is one of them. Midwives have encouraged water immersion for eons; it is the most effective form of natural pain relief and has proven to reduce intervention and support natural, empowered birth. I am all for evidence-based and sensible recommendations when it comes to labour and birth but I don't agree with taking away a low-risk intervention that can significantly reduce the pain and discomfort of labour for those women who choose not to use anaesthesia. Pregnant women are already dealing with the anxiety and expectational grief of having only one support person at their birth, taking away water will only lead to more stress and possible intervention and trauma. There are no positives here. If you are a pregnant women I encourage you to talk to your midwives. Inform yourself so that you go into your birth space with knowledge. You have my support and that of the Australian College of Midwives. @rebeccacoursey_photosandfilm

16.01.2022 Supporting Postpartum Women Idea 5 - While you are still pregnant get your hands on a copy of @thefirstfortydays . Hands down this is still my very favourite book for postpartum, reading it is like getting a huge nurturing hug. It is definitely one to read BEFORE baby arrives so that you can start to prep and instigate some of the ideas which will help with a smooth and nurturing early postpartum journey.... #pregnant #pregnancy #prenatalyoga #prenatalhealth #postpartum #postpartumhealth #postnatalhealth #postnatalyoga #newmum #postpartumbody #postnatalrecovery

16.01.2022 - Simple Joy- The kind of joy that which a mini posy of flowers from the garden ( in a beautiful vase that my super talented sister @aoifegotglass made),can bring. (I think I need a new vase or two Aoife May)

15.01.2022 Decompressing after the Festive Season So we have arrived at the other side of Christmas, for most it’s a pretty exhausting roller coaster, and for a few (including myself) it’s a bit next level. Most of this years Christmas was spent trying to hold my shit together and not crumple into panic attack mode . Today I read an online article about ‘introvert hangovers’ and it was like someone had perfectly explained and articulated my entire life experience over the last coup...le of months. They had put into words what at this stage I absolutely can not. As stringing a sentence together feels like rocket science to me at moment, and my normally pretty reasonable athletic coordination has definitely left the stadium. So if you too are an introvert feeling a bit bloody all over the shop after this festive season the article I found might be a comforting read... it certainly was for me. https://introvertdear.com/news/introvert-hangover-signs/ . . . . #introverthangover #yoga #mentalhealthawareness #ruok

13.01.2022 Heart line meridian and shoulder mobility (Video is significantly sped up) This little sequence is pretty much a daily for me. 12.01.2022 My favourite place at home Freshly painted, with all my plant friends restored. This is the place I retreat to -... *To practice yoga * to sip tea and coffee * to hear the rustle of leaves in the breeze - the chirp of birds * to leaf through a book or magazine It is my everyday retreat; a space I use to share with my puppy before she moved onto the next life. It is a space where very occasionally, my darling children leave me, for a fraction of time, to simply be. . . . . #everydayretreat #mindfulness #yogapractice #prenatalyoga #postnatalyoga #mumlife

10.01.2022 While I have quietly pondered I’ve been a little quiet on the social media front of late. Not because I haven’t been teaching ... I 100% have. But because with all that 2020 has been I’ve found myself struggling to find inspiration to share. In the scheme of events that have gone down over the last 12 months, I have felt my energy spread thinly and have been more inclined to listen, learn, and educate myself... or at least try to.... Each time I have thought about posting I have stumbled on a significant block. So many of the issues that have arisen are about human and environmental rights issues that I feel so deeply and strongly about. But also that I feel ill equipped to discuss, EVEN though I also feel they are intrinsically linked to we as women bringing up and birthing this next generation. I shall leave this post open ended, as realistically that is how life feels at the moment:

07.01.2022 Postpartum - Nurturing the New Mother It is an all encompassing experience!!! It is not until we live it that we can truly understand how significantly our focus shifts: how can one little being take up so much time? For most mums, postpartum is when caring for themselves goes out the window. It is far far too easy to find yourself 6 months down the track completely exhausted and depleted.... This is where the Online version of ‘Nurturing the New Mother ‘ workshop can help. Put together by myself and Tahlia from @lunaholisticnutrition, both mothers who are well aware of how little time you have. The workbook takes you through simple key areas and ideas to help you avoid depletion and help you thrive postnatally. Also included are 3 guided mini yoga sequences (aprox 10mins each) and 2 simple pranayama practices. We have put together this package knowing that much of your ‘selfcare’ will have to be done on the run and you will likely only have snippets of time to dedicate to mindful movement. 05.01.2022 Everyday Meditation I have loved growing things for as long as I can remember, although my commitment to the cause was questionable as a child . As I grew older the time spent in the garden tending, planting and growing became an opportunity to be deeply connected and focused. ... I am by no means a perfect and organised gardener, in fact I have simply learned to embrace the wild and imperfect - a little like life I guess. The joy when you get to eat something you grew is that extra bonus, knowing that you are helping our planet by sustaining a micro environment. These everyday experiences are the most amazing opportunities for a gratitude practice and a mindful intentional experience!
