25.01.2022 There's no doubt that 2020 has been a difficult year for many Australians, but for those living with breast cancer, it's been harder still. This year alone, more than 3,100 Australian women will lose their battle with breast cancer. That's eight women per day, making breast cancer the second most common cause of female cancer-related death. With so many people likely to be impacted, both now and into the future, it's vital that we do what we can to find a way to stop breast c...ancer. 24.01.2022 As part of our Anzac Day commemorations, we’d also like to take a moment to recognise Dennis Wellbelove, one of our residents at Freedom Redland Bay. Dennis’ family is one built on the back of two World Wars. His father, 2nd Lieutenant JT Wellbelove, served in both World War I and World War II, receiving the Military Cross for rescuing five Canadian troops while under fire during the Battle of the Somme in France. Dennis himself joined the army as a reservist when he was just... 17 years old. At the age of 20, he was called up to serve in the 61st Battalion during World War II. When it became clear that enemy forces were advancing towards Australia, Dennis’ battalion was sent to Port Moresby in Papa New Guinea to hold defensive lines. As enemy forces landed on the banks of Milne Bay, Dennis and his fellow soldiers bore the brunt of the attack and were forced back to the air field. Although sustaining heavy casualties, the Allied forces were able to push back the enemy with the help of air support. Having being successful in New Guinea, Dennis was then sent to Bougainville Island, where ultimately remained until the end of the war. Dennis speaks humbly of his military service, stating that some soldiers had experienced much worse than he had during their career. Despite this, he is proud to have served and contributed to the only successful land campaign against the Japanese in World War II. Lest we forget. #AnzacDay #AnzacAtHome

22.01.2022 With Anzac Day just around the corner, we’d like to take a moment to recognise one of Freedom Concierge Bayside's residents who served to protect our country. Daphne and a team from The Alfred Hospital went to Bien Hoa, Vietnam in 1966 under the SEATO alliance to provide medical aid to those in need. Working with a small team, Daphne often treated children suffering from war injuries. One of Daphne’s first patients was a young boy, brought in by his mother and suffering from ...severe injuries. After nursing him back to health, this young boy would sit with other patients and keep them company while they recovered. In this video (which we filmed last year), Daphne recalls some of her time in Vietnam. On the day that we were leaving, when we got out of our vehicle to go to the plane and what have you, there he was, this little boy, and he had bunches of flowers for each nurse and he said thank you. Across Australia, Aveo retirement and Freedom Care Communities are home to many brave people who, just like Daphne, dedicated their lives for our nation. We thank you for your service. Lest we forget. #AnzacDay #AnzacAtHome

21.01.2022 Freedom Bridge St residents have been getting quite creative recently! Each week, residents have sat in the community gardens and channelled their inner artist, turning terracotta pots into brightly coloured bells. These bells now adorn a tree near the front entrance of the community, which has become a popular talking point amongst visitors.... For many at the community, the bell tree has come to represent a heartfelt feeling of wellness. Daisy, a resident at the community, has really enjoyed painting the bells. It’s lovely to see all those different colours dancing around in the tree." It's great to see how our residents have been getting creative!
