12.01.2022 Yesterday was a top morning for a 2hr flight around the Yarra Valley. Lots of air traffic including several winery helicopters, parachute ops, several students training, and many other pilots going here there and everywhere. Radio calls where frequent in fact for long periods of time i couldn’t count 5 seconds between broadcasts so it was very important to listen to what was going on, make several broadcasts to remind everyone of the trike fluffing about at 50 knots and my lo...cation, and keep your eyes open . Keep this in mind when you pass through the Yarra Valley next time and make some radio calls. Setting up and packing up wasn’t such a burden taking far less time than then drive to other hangerage, im sure I’ll get it down to 1hr set-up & 1hr pack up easily. It was actually very enjoyable and therapeutic. This is what trikes are great for, and then you can go fly anywhere you want. Having the base at home also give me the chance to fluff around in the garage performing maintenance and pre-flight stuff the night before, I highly recommend it to anyone thats not flying 3 times a week! Have a good Sunday thanks for listening. See more

12.01.2022 Brilliant opportunity to fly to Mount Beauty with my brother Matt commencing his 4th 3 Peaks cycle challenge. This video shows the trip across from Wahring airfield to Mt Beauty and the spectacular ranges surrounding the area, a walk into Mt Beauty to see Matt ride through after descending Falls Creek and begin climbing Tawonga Gap. I headed back to the airfield wondering where the cyclists would be, I took off climbed over the ranges and Bright, picking up the cyclists on th...e climb to Mt Hotham. They were scattered along the road below. I followed them up the valley to a place called Smoko then turned around. It was great to see the cyclists and I wondered how Matt was going. I waved to Matts wife Bronwyn and my nieces below before flying back to Mt Beauty airfield. I met with George & Penny who transported me to the top of Falls where we killed time by walking the trails and township. George & Penny were fantastic company and joined me in supporting and tracking my brothers progress. I was anxiously waiting for Matt to come around the last corner and when he did his wife Bronwyn let it rip with an ear piercing scream of excitement! Matt looked better than previous years. George Penny & I said our goodbyes and headed back to Mt Beauty filling up jerry cans along the way. We met with the local aero club who accommodated us for a bbq dinner which was great. I camped under the rotor of the gyro again and took off 8.30am the next morning heading back the Wahring. Wind was forecast but the climb out and journey through the valleys was spectacular and smooth flying. As I approached Benella the wind hit hard! I was still enjoying the flight but was on guard, reading the weather and being mindful of potential hazards. With big gusts hitting often, I wondered what the wind was like on the ground, but looking at the trees blowing furiously below it was obvious. I pointed the nose directly into the wind to get a reading on it, ground speed dropped to 25kn, air speed was above 60kn = 35kn + winds! I was still really enjoying the trip and was nearly home. Bert at Wahring witnessed my near vertical descent and landing with zero roll diagonally across the runway into the wind. The conditions were not what you would normally fly in but this is where the gyrocopter proves itself. A great all round adventure. Thanks again George & Penny for joining me. Enjoy the video.
