20.01.2022 UPDATE 28/08- A potential foster mare has been found. The fostering process will begin tomorrow. Fingers crossed the lil Bub will take to her new mum! Our hea...rtfelt thanks to everyone who has shared our post in the search for a foster mare. The response has been overwhelming. It is so wonderful to see how the horse community pulls together to help each other in times of need. Many thanks to each and every one of you URGENT - FOSTER MARE REQUIRED This little munchkin’s mum had a very difficult birth on Sunday night and sadly we lost the battle to save her today. She is now an orphan and we are searching for a foster mare. If anyone knows of someone with a foster mare that is available and are willing to help, please call us at Ascot Equine on 9277 7737, or call Emily at Scenic Lodge on 0419 904 240. Thanking you all in advance #foalsofinstagram #orphanfoal #fostermareneeded #equinevet #ascotequinevets #equinehospital #diagnosticcentre #excellence #integrity #compassion

18.01.2022 Horse riding is a sport. It requires fitness and balance and muscle memory. It is important to be as fit as we require our horse to be so the best outcome and synchro is achieved https://www.horsetalk.co.nz//sensors-key-differences-adv/

18.01.2022 Reading the book ‘HORSE SENSE’ for a course I am doing. Kinda agree though but funny to see in a book. had a giggle at this section. It looks like many riders are still at transitional phase

17.01.2022 Very well written article. Horses aren’t cars.

17.01.2022 Thank you Ellen Vincent for keenya’s bday gift Awesome wisdom and help with our man

17.01.2022 To always be reminded when starting young horses. What to ask for. How to train. How much training. Please note this is only a guideline. Bigger horses may mature slightly at older stage. Check knees and allow lots of down turn

15.01.2022 MEDIO LATERAL IMBALANCE This hoof has been and is still a great learning experience for me. Medio lateral imbalance often means that the horse puts more weight on the ‘contracted’ or tighter side, creating a flare on the other side. Often, if overtrimmed, the contracted side will have near no buttress (or heel) as it constantly sustain more weight. It took a long time to get a buttress on the medial side. The wall often folded to the inside due to weight bearing. ... I have tried many different approaches, however, I think I am finally making progress after many years of attempt. Most trim methods teach to follow the sole when addressing the wall. However, there are exceptions and this is one of them. The sole plane isn’t levelled due to the difference of weight bearing of that leg. That said, using the sole plane as a guide makes the horse uneven and have a twist in the P2-P1 joint where the contracted side sinks more due to more weight. Therefore, keeping the flare side fully bevelled and down to sole level on a weekly basis and very little done on the contracted side seems working well. Unhappy with mechanic of the leg, I kept reading, observing and thinking. I found Pete Ramey’s approach the most successful so far. (Article attached) https://www.hoofrehab.com/Balance.html Unsure why it would occur. I am thinking that it could be due to early heavy work on one side only during hoof development (which can be up to 5 years of age). This horse is an OTTB which would make sense. Your thoughts....... Photos and explanations attached

09.01.2022 THE TRUST ME TIP Communication & conversation between horse and rider is the essence of everything we teach & learn. Before you can improve the conversation b...etween yourself and your horse you need to understand where they are coming from, what their values are and how you communicate together. Do you have clear communication with your horse? Are you listening for feedback from your horse when training them? What does trust look like between you and your horse? If you would like to deepen your trust and communication the "Trust Me Tip" is a profound exercise that you and your horse can experience at one of our 2 day clinics. If you would like further information feel free to send us a message so we can let you know as soon as we have dates secured for 2021.

03.01.2022 Following consultation with the relevant government agencies, Equestrian Victoria, HRCAV, PCV and RDAV advise that the current restrictions for Stage 4 Metrop...olitan Melbourne and Stage 3 Regional Victoria, will remain in force until the Victorian Roadmap to Reopening commences from 11:59pm 13 September 2020. Read the current restrictions https://www.vic.equestrian.org.au//EQUESTRIAN%20VICTORIA%2 METROPOLITAN MELBOURNE ROADMAP For Metropolitan Melbourne, the First Step Commences at 11:59pm on 13 September 2020. Restrictions for equestrian activity remain the same as currently in place for Stage 4 - Metropolitan Melbourne. Subject to trigger points and public health advice, the government MAY then move Melbourne Metropolitan to the Second Step from 28 September 2020, but ONLY if those trigger points have been met. We are still awaiting clarification of what the impact on equestrians under Step 2, Metropolitan Melbourne may be. When will Metro Melbourne move to the Second Step Metro Melbourne can move to the second step after 28 September 2020 AND when we reach an average daily case rate in metro Melbourne of 30 to 50 cases over a 14 day period with public health advice regarding transmission source. Restrictions for equestrian activity remain the same as are currently in place for Stage 3 - Regional Victoria. When will Regional Victoria move to the Third Step When specified trigger points and public health conditions are met, then, the Government MAY move Regional Victoria to Step 3. Those trigger points are when: - Daily average number of cases in the last 14 days in Regional Victoria is less than 5 AND - Less than 0 cases in Regional Victoria with an unknown source in the last 14 days. Links: Website: https://www.vic.gov.au/restrictions-roadmap-regional-victor PDF: http://bit.ly/RegionalRoadmap The current provision to care for your horse/s under animal welfare grounds is still in place. This applies to both Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria. We must all remember that we are in the middle of a global pandemic. Victoria is at the centre of this pandemic in Australia, and how we all behave over the next few weeks determines how successful or otherwise we emerge on the other side. We understand that there will be disappointment and frustration that there is no further relaxation of restrictions at this point, but we will continue to advocate on behalf of the equestrian community. Once we have further information, we will email all members direct. MATTHEW BROWN CEO - Equestrian Victoria
