13.01.2022 North Australian Lodge On the 13th of July 1859 North Australian No 1 was consecrated. The first steps to establish Freemasonry in Queensland were taken in the State’s foundation year, 1859. A meeting of members held in Brisbane forwarded a petition to the Provincial Grand Lodge of NSW requesting that a Lodge be constituted in Brisbane. This petition was granted, and North Australian Lodge was established. The Lodge was aptly named, as it was then the most northerly Lodge ...in Australia. The inaugural meeting of the Lodge was held on 13 July 1859, at the Freemason’s Hotel, Albert Street. Amongst the Foundation Members of the Lodge was Ratcliffe Pring, Barrister - who later became Queensland’s first Attorney General. North Australia Lodge has had 4 Grand Lodge roll numbers No 1098 from the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) from 1859 until 1863. When UGLE renumbered their Lodges in 1863 North Australia was assigned number No 796 UGLE until the formation of Queensland Grand Lodge in 1920. As part of the renumbering of the Lodges at the foundation of this Grand Lodge they were given No 1 on the roll. They held this number until unification in 1921 when they were again numbered No 1 showing that they were the first Lodge formed in Queensland. A re-consecration ceremony was conducted by the Grand Master MW Bro Graeme Ewin and Grand Officers of UGLQ at the 150th Lodge Anniversary in July 2009 in the Masonic Memorial Centre, Ann Street, Brisbane. 09.01.2022 Hamilton Lodge 186 amalgamated with Calen Lodge 395 in 2018. These Lodges have had a great relationship since the formation of Calen Lodge in 1947. Hamilton Lodge was consecrated in 1908. They celebrate their consecration on the 10th of July as this is the date of the consecration of Hamilton Lodge. Both Lodges were on the opposite sides of Mt Dalrymple near Mackay. 01.01.2022 Wor. Bro. Barry Scott has been awarded the Order of Australia for his community service in general and being the founder of the Australian Koala Foundation in particular. Barry is currently Lodge Organist in Thespian Lodge 268. The award was presented by His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland on 23 September 2020. The Australian Koala Foundation has been in operation and striving to make the world a safer place for koalas since 1986.... In 1985, when Barry Scott was asked to manage the Oasis Tourist Gardens in Sunnybank, he met Steve Brown who was acting as the honorary veterinary consultant to a colony of disease free Koalas that lived there. Steve was a passionate advocate for the Koala and he inspired Barry who suggested that a foundation for the koala be formed. Together they began to gather friends and supporters around them to form an organisation to help cure koala diseases and save their declining numbers. A constitution was drawn up and on 17th January, 1986 and a Certificate of Incorporation (no. 1262) was issued in the name of the Australian Koala Association Inc. This name was changed on the 3rd October 1986 to the Australian Koala Foundation Inc. In those early days, Barry Scott travelled from Brisbane to Perth, Adelaide and Sydney, setting up branches and bringing people together who would form the basic structure of the AKF's honorary support. The Australian Koala Foundation is constantly working to educate the world’s people about the koala’s needs and to turn this trend around. Congratulations Barry. This honour is well deserved.

01.01.2022 Diary date claimer for a great event in 2021. The Grand Lodge of South Australia and the Northern Territory will hold its Grand Installation in April 2021. It would be wonderful to have a strong delegation to join the Grand Master and celebrate this event in Adelaide during our centenary year. All UGLQ Freemasons are welcome to join the delegation. You don't have to be a Grand Officer to attend. Partners and families are of course very welcome.... Booking details etc. will follow.

01.01.2022 The Mundubbera-Burnett Masonic Lodge presented Mundubbera State School with a cheque for $500 to support their breakfast program, where students learn life skills as they help out in food preparation and cleaning. Mundubbera State School identified a need for a Breakfast Club program which was re-introduced to students in the middle of this year. A successful and ongoing program had ceased two years ago due to the lack of volunteers and funding. The present program is supervi...sed by the school Chaplain and a rotation of year 6 and 7 students. It is well supported by a wide range of students who welcome this opportunity for breakfast. Unfortunately, the school has a growing number of families who are finding it difficult to provide breakfast for their children. The school’s goal is to ensure all students start their school day with sustenance, ensuring their bodies are powered up for learning. Currently, they offer toast with a few different spreads and cups of milo. Their weekly supply of milk (6 litres) has been generously donated by a Gayndah family. Student numbers have increased since they started this program and they are currently serving 4-5 loaves of bread each week. The long-term goal is to start offering cereal such as rice bubbles, cornflakes or Weetbix in the warmer months and possibly offering hot mince on toast, in the cooler months. The costs associated with this endeavour are approximately $25 week and likely $35 week in winter when they look to provide the mince on toast. Mundubbera-Burnett Masonic Lodge’s donation will ensure they will be able to expand their breakfast program into next year and the Masonic Lodge is looking to continue their support to the school into the future. Thanks to all the members of Mundubbera-Burnett lodge for their support and generosity. Special thanks to VW Bro. Bill Turner.
