24.01.2022 Happy International Nurses Day. ... I decided I wanted to be a Nurse when I was 12. My sister had an accident and sustained full thickness burns that required a long hospital stay. I spent so much time there watching the Nurses care for her and they seemed so nice. I decided I wanted a job where I could be 'nice.' .. I've done all different types of Nursing over the past 17 years but none that gets as little recognition as Cosmetic Nursing. ... We are currently in this weird state of limbo where the government won't provide a clear statement about our return to work after Covid. We are not beauty therapists. (Absolutely nothing wrong with beauty therapist, some of my dearest friends are amazing beauty therapists and I don't want to go back to those brows in this photo.) .. It is very frustrating that I can't provide a 1:1 treatment of prescription medication, wearing full PPE, using my University degree in Infection Control but 10 AFL players can train and tackle in a pack "because it's their job." .. I want to return to work and see you all so badly but you know I'm a stickler for rules (with the exception of that little speeding fine incident a few years ago ) and I'll only return when I have government go ahead and valid insurance. 18.01.2022 How cool is this filter?! .. Although it doesn't show all of the anatomy, it does show the main arteries. Getting dermal filler in one of these can result in serious complications and in some cases permanent blindness. The placement of these arteries varies slightly from person to person. This is why, (even after years of doing this and thousands of treatments) I still draw all over you and do those weird techniques with the syringe. For your safety. Every time. .. Cosmetic Injectables are not a beauty treatment. It takes many years of University qualifications, experience and continuing education to get it right. Choose an Injector that's a geek and loves anatomy.

17.01.2022 Iso Education .. This is a great post from @drharrisclinic. "Migration" is when filler sits above the border of the lip resulting in a heaviness or 'shelf like' appearance. It's most obvious from a side profile and can effect the way your lips move.(pic in comments) This is why, for some of you, I recommend dissolving this old filler above the lip (and sometimes in the lip) before re treating. I do believe a certain filler type and technique can cause migration, and this... is the reason why I choose to stay away from both of these. The mechanism of filler spread (migration) in procedures such as tenting or fencing (left) and dissolving the filler with hyaluronidase (right). The lips are a contained, or closed system formed by the meeting of two main sections of the mouth muscle (orbicularis oris) at the vermillion border (white outline in the animated model). When injecting the border, the closed system is opened up to form an open system which allows the filler to spread (migrate) in the subcutaneous (superficial fat) layer into the surrounding (perioral) area along a path of least resistance. With movement of the mouth (caused by contraction of the orbicularis oris), the filler is pushed out further. The tenting or fencing technique and similarly, the Russian lip technique all involve multiple perpendicular needle insertions through the border down to the centre of the lips. These not only increase the risk of a blocked artery (vascular occlusion), but create what I call channels of spread for the filler to track up the path of the needle (black arrows) and form a ledge (Harris Classification of Spread, class 2 spread). With repeated movement of the mouth muscle, the filler can spread out further to form a class 3 or 4 spread (red arrows). Filler spread not only distorts the natural shape of the lips, but interferes with basic human functions of the mouth such as eating, talking and kissing. 13.01.2022 2 weeks down. .. How is everyone? .. I've had lots of messages from people genuinely distressed about missing their treatments. Requesting home visits, or visits to my house or tips on buying illegal, non TGA approved product online. ... .. I know it's really difficult but we can only control the controllable. Invest in good skin care, drink water and keep a healthy diet. I'm not treating my own face during this time so we can all look old together .. This beautiful client (past her mid 40s if you can believe it ) has invested her time and money into doing what she can to maintain her skin whilst in isolation. And it's paying off! .. (Don't come at me anti vaxxers, I'm not interested, we will have to agree to disagree) .. Even though I'm probably not going to be up in your faces this winter and it won't do anything to stop the Rona, it's still so important to reduce any further pressure on our health care system and stay as well as possible.... .. Ps. It's a super easy system at my clinic. You ring for an appointment, wait in the car and they call you in to a separate side entrance and foyer to be treated. 07.01.2022 Well it's been a day! I normally try and stay as upbeat as possible but today got me good. .. As long as the government classifies Cosmetic Injectables (a prescription medication administered by a Registered Nurse or Dr) as a "beauty treatment" we will stay closed until at least the 23rd of November. This will make 30 weeks this year without work. This is really really difficult for a small business but I know many of you are doing it much harder. I won't be rescheduling appointments until much closer to November because as we know things change quickly in the Covid world. Those who lost appointments during the lockdown will be given first priority and will be contacted via sms. Thinking of everyone who's struggling in these times and I really can't wait to catch up soon.

05.01.2022 Thanks for all your beautiful messages yesterday and today. I may have lost it yesterday but I'm back feeling positive today. .. I've had lots of clients sending messages asking why I'm not opening when they've seen other clinics re opening. Whether we agree with it or not, Cosmetic Injectables ARE currently classified as "beauty" and will not be permitted to re open until the end of NOVEMBER. .. 02.01.2022 This is me today. .. In the Five years I've worked for myself I've had two sick days.This winter is going to be different. A kid with a little sniffle that would normally go to school is now staying home in line with the Covid recommendations. .. Luckily, Super Dad always saves the day and leaves work at short notice but there will be some days that I'll need to be home, and I'd expect you'll probably be in the same position too! There's going to be appointments cancelled ...from both sides this winter and there's nothing we can do about it except have patience. ..
