25.01.2022 Stormy sky over Freycinet yesterday evening ahead of a southerly change with 54 knots recorded on Maria Island. Not a good time for boating.

24.01.2022 Last week we paid $165 for face masks for our volunteers. In the same week we received a credit of $174 on our power bill How good is that! Thanks Aurora Energy, perfect timing.

23.01.2022 A great project by St Helens Marine Rescue and especially JD (for those who know him). This pic is from their new live webcam at Burns Bay boat ramp, just outside the barway. To see the live action go to the St Helens Marine Rescue page on FB and click on the picture. The camera has great night vision capability too. Watch for the Eddystone Point lighthouse after dark.

22.01.2022 Great Oyster Bay Boaters keep a good lookout. The East Coast is looking great after the March rainfall but there is still debris floating about. This 7m log was recovered from Waterloo Point, Swansea, yesterday afternoon.

21.01.2022 Social Distancing. Don't get caught out!

20.01.2022 Wear-Orange-Wednesday! We're 'wearing' Orange to acknowledge the commitment of all SES volunteers during National Volunteer Week and especially those serving the Glamorgan Spring Bay Municipality. Goodonya!

18.01.2022 Keep a good lookout for drifting logs on Great Oyster Bay. A number of logs that washed up after heavy rain last month have been refloated after high tide and large swell overnight. This one is estimated to be 10 - 12m long. Pic taken at 10am with a 400mm lens from Waterloo Pt, Swansea looking toward Fleurieu Point on the western end of the Hazards

17.01.2022 We just had a call from our local Federal Member, Brian Mitchell MP, advising that we've been successful in obtaining a grant from the Stronger Communities grant program to replace the trailer for our rescue boat. The new Easytow trailer will take advantage of developments in design and construction over the past 20 years and be much safer and easier for our volunteers to operate and maintain. Thanks for the personal call Brian, and your support.

16.01.2022 Early start this morning in support of Bicheno Surf Life Saving Club's 'Devil of a Swim' ocean swimming event. Despite the forecast and 'brisk' offshore winds the event was great success and well attended.

16.01.2022 Phone-a-friend tow off Swansea this afternoon. If phoning for assistance is your best option to get help for a breakdown, and you don't have a mate like John B, call Tasmania Police Community Assist on 131 444 to get help. They'll get the wheels turning to put you in touch with the best available rescue resources which might be one of the Volunteer Marine Rescue units that are still active around the State.

15.01.2022 In Tassie, you need to carry flares that are 'in date' if operating beyond designated Smooth Waters. We're no longer able to collect out-of-date flares and arrange for their disposal. When an alternative becomes available, we'll let you know. In the meantime, keep those old flares in a safe place. We'll still take your old EPIRB's out of circulation to avoid false alarms. Get in touch via our website www.freycinetvmr.com

15.01.2022 Don't plan on boating this weekend! From: www.seabreeze.com.au

13.01.2022 Whoa! What happened here? A worker in the offshore oil and gas industry had just applied alcohol-based gel hand sanitiser. Before the sanitiser had fully dried, the worker touched a metal surface where a build up of static created an ignition source and the sanitiser ignited, resulting in almost invisible flame on both hands. Makes hot soapy water a good option!

12.01.2022 On the Swan River this morning, with the Boss on board to assess our training. Nice work by John S, as Tug Master, putting the rescue boat gently alongside the pontoon while it was under tow in a 25 knot south easterly.

12.01.2022 Conditional Boat Licence Training @ Swansea. Next courses: Sunday 26th July and Saturday 1st August. Limited places. See the website for details. Be quick!

12.01.2022 Our Stormy's. All serviced and ready for the boating season with thanks to Glamorgan Spring Bay Council. Now is a great time to check the manufacturer's recommendations for inspecting and servicing your inflatable lifejacket.

08.01.2022 New addition to Swansea Boat Ramp landings. Stainless rods through every second pile to stop dock lines sliding off the top of the piles when the tides are high.

07.01.2022 Swansea's swimming pontoon has been beached by large swells for the second time in as many weeks. Rather than set it free again it's been brought ashore until summer.

06.01.2022 EXPIRED FLARES? MAST will be collecting expired flares at Swansea (Jubilee Beach) Boat Ramp between 3pm and 4pm next Wednesday 2nd December. Live in Swansea but can't make it then? Give them to a mate who can, or msg your mobile number to 0400 329 973 and we'll arrange a pick up. On the same day, MAST will be at Bicheno Boat Ramp between 1 and 2pm and at Triabunna Boat Ramp between 5 and 6pm. Please remove flares from the outer pack and separate coastal flares (red and orange handheld) from parachute flares.

06.01.2022 World Marine AtoN (Aids to Navigation) Day. This Isolated Danger mark at Coles Bay identifies a frequently submerged rock, a.k.a. 'Prop Rock', that used to be regularly visited by boats unintentionally 'touching base' with the seabed. In the background, supporters of Freycinet Volunteer Marine Rescue, continuously since 2004, Freycinet Lodge. Pay a visit - to the Lodge, not the Rock!

05.01.2022 Easter Sunday morning in Swansea. Full tide. Empty trailer park. Everyone voluntarily staying at home.

04.01.2022 Swimmers take care around Great Oyster Bay. A small number of bluebottles have been washed ashore around Swansea over the past few days. Take the next three minutes to check out this cool video, courtesy of Andre at Oceanfit Whitsundays. Andre shows how to recognise a Bluebottle and how to treat it's sting if you happen to run into one. https://oceanfit.com.au/lesson/blue-bottle

03.01.2022 Need a boat licence? We have two places left for a boat licence course at Swansea on Sunday 2nd May. More info: https://www.freycinetvmr.com

02.01.2022 We're hoping we don't have to use them, but we now have a supply of face masks for volunteers to use in the event of a call-out. Thanks to Surf Life Saving Tas for organising the bulk purchase and distribution.

02.01.2022 Stuck at home with the kids? Feeling the cold in more ways than one? Here's something different from the Boating Industry Association. Two children's activity books are available now, with a third in the pipeline. Download from: www.bia.org.au/community/my-adventures-boating
