25.01.2022 Every 12 months or so, check to see if your refrigerator seals are in good condition. One way to tell if a seal is bad is the paper test. Put a piece of paper between the door and the fridge, close the door and then pull. If the paper slips out easily, it's time to call a repairman to come and replace the seal.

24.01.2022 NORMAL SOUNDS AND NOISES MADE BY YOUR FRIDGE! The normal operation of your refrigerator will cause some sound. The following list contains sounds that are quite normal. If you are worried about the noises your fridge is making, give Allan a call! A chirping/barking/woof/howl sound can sometimes be heard as the damper door opens/closes. A change in fan speed as the refrigerator responds to changes in temperature due to door opening. A click can be heard when the temperature co...ntrol unit turns the unit on and off. A boiling, gurgling, or knocking sound can be heard when the unit is running. This is caused by the circulation of the refrigerant. Gurgling sound in the door. This sound can be heard just after the door is closed because of the water in the drain tube trap area. It can last several seconds. The icemaker will make a loud noise when cubes are dropped into the bucket. A hum or click can be heard when the icemaker fills with water. This sound may be heard once or multiple times. A cracking or popping sound may be heard when evaporator coils on Top Mount No Frost models are cooling after defrost. Buzzing noises can be heard during and after getting water from the door dispenser. The noise should not last longer than a few seconds after you stop dispensing. Buzzing noise not related to dispensing water (above), The icemaker will make a buzzing sound when it's trying to fill with water. If the buzzing noise can be heard approximately every 15 minutes, check and make sure the water is turned on to the ice maker. A clicking noise may be heard after a power shortage. This stems from the compressor trying to re-start itself. The noise could last for 3 to 5 minutes. A hissing, sizzling, buzzing, or arching noise may be heard on self-defrost models. This is produced when water drips on defrost heaters. On new refrigerators, it is not unusual for the door to whistle or squeak. This occurs because the gasket (rubber material around inner perimeter of the door) is sealing very tightly. This noise will stop in a few days once the gasket becomes more pliable. Water lines supplying the refrigerator may make a loud bang due to a condition called "water hammer". Water hammer is a knocking or banging noise in a water line that occurs when the water valve opens and closes. A rattle or vibration noise will be heard if the ice maker is on but water is not supplied to it. It is recommended that when the unit is not hooked up to water that the ice maker is turned off. Let us know if you have a different noise! See more

20.01.2022 The general rule of thumb for any appliance is that if repair costs are more than half of the replacement cost, it's time to buy a new appliance. You can get a basic dryer for about $500, but it's not Energy Star rated so utility savings are minimal. In this scenario, it's a toss-up on whether to repair or replace. If you are unsure whether to repair or replace give Allan a call and have a chat about what is happening. He will be happy to give you an idea of cost for repair over the telephone, based on your description of the problem.

19.01.2022 If your dryer is no longer drying your clothes then the first thing to do is to check and clean the dryer lint filter trap. We were forced to add that as our first step as there really are some people who do not realize there is a LINT FILTER that must be cleaned before or after each use. Once that is cleaned out, check if the dryer is still NOT drying your clothes.

19.01.2022 A great tip that will help keep your fridge cold and keep your electricity bills down! When you are choosing something from the fridge you should peek, grab and close! Don’t leave the door open when taking food out. The longer the door is open, the more cold air escapes and the more energy is needed to reduce the temperature again once the door is closed.

18.01.2022 TOP TIP! To get the most out of your fridge freezer you should fill the freezer, but give the fridge some air! Freezers work most efficiently when packed as full as possible. Use extra ice for cold drinks or cold-packs for summer picnics into empty spaces. It is also worth noting that full freezers keep food frozen longer if a power cut occurs. The refrigerator is different; it needs air circulation to keep food at an even temperature. Packing a fridge means some foods become... too cold and may freeze. Others aren’t kept cold enough for proper storage. Let the refrigerator breathe to keep food fresh longer. Aim to keep it about 2/3rds full. Your fridge and freezer use lots of energy to replace the cold air that rushes out every time someone opens the door. Keeping the fridge and freezer at least 2/3 full, less air can leak out. This is especially important if you and your family frequently open the doors! See more

14.01.2022 Did you know that if you put a dry towel in with your wet items for drying that they will dry quicker? The towel will absorb some of the moisture, making your items dry faster. Take out the towel after around 5 minutes, if you are drying just a few items or 15 minutes for a full load. Let the towel air dry while your clothes finish up in the dryer.

03.01.2022 Have you noticed mould on your fridge door seals? In our humid climate, it is not so unusual, especially in older models. Scrub down your fridge every month or so with a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with water. Wipe clean with just water, and then wipe dry. This will help to prevent mould growth in the nooks and crannies inside your fridge. If it is serious it is worth looking at getting your seals replaced.
