25.01.2022 Friends of the Larapinta Trail would like to officially thank the outgoing 2020/21 Committee for the amazing work they did over the past 12 months and officially welcome in the new President and Committee. With an impressive resume that has seen him lead hikes all around Australia and overseas, our new El Presidente, Timmi Sanders, has been a trekking guide for over 5 years on OUR trail and is passionate about the Trail, FOLT and its people! One of his proudest moments was s...tanding atop Mount Sonder with his Mum, Jillian, a couple of years back. In his spare time - when he’s not working at the Alice Springs Desert Park and teaching physical activity for Bluearth Foundation - this big hearted guy enjoys camping adventures, reading under a tree and of course hiking! Timmi is excited to be the front of our organisation as we head into what could be the busiest year yet, on the Larapinta Trail! Watch this space for more on our current committee #FOLT #LarapintaTrail #madforhiking

24.01.2022 A stunning spring day, and a blissful cool breeze made the short hike for our group today a magic experience. Leaving town at 6:30am we made the drive to the Ochre Pits and began our 8km return trek into Inarlunga Pass on the Aranda/Arrente Bush Walk. The majority of the walk had little vegetation after the fires of last year, but arriving at the Pass we were graced with a lush, green, cycad filled gorge. ... So many different flowers were poking their heads up, such resilience and a real treat. Altogether another great walk with familiar faces and new friends, and a first - a hike with a little Miss who was 9 Months old!

15.01.2022 It’s Saturday morning and we make our way out of Alice for our adventure on Section 4. After enjoying a coffee at Standley Chasm we begin our 10.5km trek to Brinkley Bluff. Meandering through the creek bed, winding our way up the valley, enjoying lunch at Reveal Saddle with our destination in sight. A steep drop off Reveal Saddle then another hike up to the ridge line. Undulation, after undulation, after undulation and we are greeted by one of the best vistas on the trail. We... set up camp, play some cards, then settle in with our evening picnic to watch the sunset. After a well earned rest under a starry sky we wake early. There’s not a breath of wind, and the horizon starts to glow. Snuggled in our sleeping bags, hot coffee in hand, we watch the colours change and the day begin. We slowly pack up camp, say good bye and retreat back down the path we came up on yesterday. A mid morning break at Bridle Path Lookout, and then onward home. With our feet free from our hiking boots and a feeling of accomplishment we enjoy a tasty post trek burger (thank you Standley Chasm - Angkerle) . It was a glorious weekend, thank you to the wonderful group of trekkers who helped make it so. See more
