20.01.2022 UPDATE: As of 5:52pm, the scene has been made safe and Avoca Drive is now open in both directions. Thank you to those who used an alternate route to get home ...this evening . Heads up to our locals! Our crew are currently on scene at a live power line down on Avoca Drive. Avoca Drive is currently closed just after the bridge. Please avoid the area where possible and drive safely.

17.01.2022 A shout out to see if there’s any local rentals available. An Avoca Beach RFS family is in desperate need. The premises they are currently renting has been sold... and despite extensive searching and repeated applications they have been unsuccessful so far. Looking for a rental on the Coast preferably within a 20 minute drive of the Avoca Beach RFS station so as to make it in reasonable time for fire calls. It’s a family of six so they would need a minimum of 3 bedrooms. Happy to forward on any details, references etc. Only a week left before they have to be out of their current place. Hoping someone might know of something available. Thanks See more

06.01.2022 The Importance of the Whale’s Mouth Lookout The #5LandsWalk reaches across cultural barriers, overcoming challenges to create a community in which we all feel ...unified. We delve into questions of how to reconcile our traditions and stories while navigating the complexities of our identities. The Whale Mouth Lookout is a modern representation of the ancient spiritual origins of Darkinjung country, connecting the 5 Lands Walk coastline to the sacred mountain of Yango. In the time before time, Baiame appeared on Yango with Ghiong, blessing the people and gifting them with the rules of life (kinship system). After teaching the people how to live peacefully and in balance with everything, Baiame stepped back onto Yango and returned to the sky world. Ghiong transformed from a bird (sky spirit) to a whale (water spirit) and went out to sea. This is why the Whale Mouth Lookout is so important to the 5 Lands Walk, it has cultural significance for everyone, symbolically links us to the sacred Mt Yango, and stands as a practical expression of reconciliation alongside Captain Cook. The above is from my mate - Phil Bligh, Chair of the 5 Lands Aboriginal Action Group. The proposed Whale’s Mouth Lookout, connected by a path and bridge to Captain Cook Lookout, will form a powerful symbolic joining of the ancient Indigenous culture with that of the European settlers. The Clifftop Walk is, however, presently unsafe for tourist use and is environmentally fragile, so work must be done to upgrade it as a matter of priority and the 5 Lands Walk supports the Council’s desire to do so. To make good our vision to have a spiritually and culturally significant, spectacular walk which is safe and accessible 365 days a year, the adoption by the Council of Option B for proposed Stage 2 is essential. If you agree, we encourage you to express your support for Option B by doing the quick survey at https://www.yourvoiceourcoast.com/wbw2.
