16.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I must report that Captain Jack Hopper, Honourary Life Member of the Queensland Maritime Museum and former Captain of the Forceful passed away on Wednesday. Jack was the Forceful's last Captain before she ceased operating and was a long time member and volunteer of the Queensland Maritime Museum. Jack, originally from the UK, had spent his working life in the maritime industry and was a master mariner. His career at sea started as a cadet on mer...chant ships during the Second World War which involved perilous voyages where merchant convoys were hunted by German U-boats. His career took him around the world living in New Zealand for a time before settling in Australia. On Forceful he would stand at the wheel for hours on end, safely navigating the tug through the reaches of the Brisbane River and out into Moreton Bay. He was also very accommodating to the more childish members of Forceful's crew who got a kick out of blowing the whistle. In recognition for his significant contributions to the Queensland Maritime Museum he was made an Honourary Life Member. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and worked with him. On behalf of the Friends of Forceful we offer our heartfelt condolences to Jack's family and friends.

12.01.2022 A lot of hard work from the dedicated volunteers at the Queensland Maritime Museum have made this possible.

09.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of one of the great stalwarts of both the Queensland Maritime Museum and the Forceful. Col Whale passed away yesterday afternoon after a battle with cancer. One of the reasons that this page has been quiet for some time is that Col was the man with the information, being the secretary of the Friends of Forceful. His illness prevented him doing much of what he had done prior to his illness. The words that that appeared on...Continue reading

05.01.2022 For those of you that knew Col that are not on the museum's mailing list. Col Whale's funeral will be held on Monday 18th December at 10.30 at the Albany Creek Memorial Park Garden Chapel.

04.01.2022 The Queensland Maritime Museum is organising a working bee to get Forceful open to the public again. If you’re Interested in coming along, please let [email protected]
