18.01.2022 Did you know the work of the Friends of Kings Park includes funding student scholarships and internships to further their studies on projects contributing to the enhancement of the natural environment at Kings Park? The Friends were delighted to co-fund an Internship for PhD student Bronwyn Ayres looking at the impact of the introduced European Honeybee on native plants, through APR.Intern. Working with scientists at Kings Park, she reviewed the impact of the introduced Europ...ean Honeybee. In some plants, foraging by honeybees lowers the amount of fruit and seed produced, while in other plants, the bees can increase fruit and seed production. By comparing the characteristics (things like flower size and flower colour) of these plants, she created predictions of what traits cause negative outcomes. More information about Bronwyn's internship can be found on the UWA Students page and at https://aprintern.org.au/universities/student-info/

17.01.2022 March 2020 Plant Sale IMPORTANT UPDATE As you know, many in our community are concerned about the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The advice from Government departments is evolving and we are continuing to monitor the situation *The Plant Sale is proceeding on Sunday*... We will be limiting the number of people who can enter the plant sale at one time to facilitate 'social distancing' of 1 metre, as recommended by Government authorities. There will be some sales limits on purchases of plants in low supply (eg the new hybrid grevilleas) to ensure equity. We ask for your patience and support to ensure our plant sale can continue in a safe manner: If you have ANY flu-like symptoms that include fever, coughing, sore throat, tiredness and/or shortness of breath, please do not attend the Plant Sale. Perhaps a friend can purchase your plants for you? Please follow good hygiene practices as outlined by the World Health Organisation (https://www.who.int//novel-coronavirus-2/advice-for-public) Please endeavour to maintain a 1-metre distance from others at the Plant Sale. We will have hand sanitiser available for your use.
