25.01.2022 Thank you to all who responded to our survey. A report has been submitted to the Secretariat of Independent Review of the Harbour Trust. We were pleased to see many ex-submariners saw value in open space for our local community and all lovers of our harbour. ‘I was a Submariner and was based at HMAS Platypus for nearly 19 years, what the Harbour trust has done is despicable, our association Submarines Association Australia has had some very small input into the project, and the memorial is good, but as to leasing for commercial use it just should not happen. It was to be local open recreation space and that’s how it should be.’

24.01.2022 I attended the Independent Review Forum on the Harbour Trust last night with 200 people in the audience. I came away with 3 things. 1. A huge number showed discontent - little consultation, betrayal, lies, waste, poor use of sites, slow progress.... 2. The best idea there, was to look at Foundation NFP's structures from around the world, select one and don't try to re-invent the world. Have different sites as Cockatoo Island be managed in this way and get it happening. Platyp...us after 15-20 years of poor management by the Trust desperately needs a Foundation. 3. Preserving history and environment needs to be balanced with exciting community related activities as major art to get a 'MONA' drawcard experience. Much tourism and revenue can be gained. Commercialisation un-related to the community largely should be strongly avoided. Young people need to be involved in community consultations not just the well preserved over 60's. See more

23.01.2022 Platypus is an industrial site not unlike NZ's Aucklands Silo Park. But how good is this in Auckland, they have renewed the area for the community and have free community movie nights on Fridays and food trucks. Amazing! and right on the waterfront.

22.01.2022 Where'e the vitality at Sub Base Platypus? This public land has been developed by Harbour Trust for commercial $$ interests and not for community. It's EMPTY, soulless at $24M+. But it can be saved if you persistently let Mr Zimmerman MP (local) and Ms Ley MP (Environment) know what you want. Is it open green space, trees, kayaking pontoon, swimming pontoon, art movie nights, indigenous recognition and more. Great cafes will appear when the community has some really attractive there. 21.01.2022 The lights are on every night at Platypus but no one is there. Why can't the Harbour Trust support some cultural activity as outdoor movies or a community art gallery and stop leasing to 9-5pm businesses. This amazing site is public land for recreation. What is the government doing wasting public money on developing commercial office units! This is so wrong.
