24.01.2022 Almost 50 Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to a fire in a unit block on Carramar Ave, Carramar a shortly after 10pm last night. When the firefighte...rs arrived the unit on the second floor was well alight leaving the remainder of the building heavily smoke logged. The firefighters brought the fire under control just after midnight. Approximately 18 residents were evacuated from the building with a number rescued from the top floor by firefighters via a ladder. Two residents were transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. FRNSW have now launched their Get Ready For Winter checklist online and are urging the community to download this and ensure their homes are prepared. FRNSW provides the following tips for fire safety in the home: Working smoke alarms double chances of survival regularly check your alarm is working Keep looking when cooking - do not leave cooking unattended at any time Know and practice your fire escape plan Don’t overload power points and power boards Always keep everything a metre from the heater If there is a fire get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000) For more information on home fire safety visit https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/page.php?id=9284

A lifesaving decision on their behalf as it was an early warning sign that gave them enough time to escape! It’s a timely and stark reminder of why working smoke alarms help save lives. Don’t risk it, test yours today. If you’d like more information on smoke alarms visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/winter #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable
