23.01.2022 Parent, Oh, there’s the police. You’d better be good, or they will arrest you, take you away and put you in jail. Police officer, "Uhhmmmm really??? No, not g...oing to happen!" It’s something we hear way too often while out walking through shopping centres. Please teach your children not to be scared of Police. Teach them, Police are there to help them, we are Safe Adults in the community along with their mum and dad, grandparents and teachers. Teach them if they get lost, we help them find their mum or dad. If they need help, look for one of us and we’ll be more than happy to assist. If our children grow up in an environment where their parents are teaching them to fear police, then who will they feel safe enough to talk to when they need help? Next time, when you and your children walk past police officers in a shopping centre, give them a wave and say hi. If it’s me you wave to, we promise to wave and say hi back. Be sure to share this post to help get the word out there!

20.01.2022 Just after 8am this morning Schofields were responded to a House Fire. While on route the call was changed to a gas leak on fire. On arrival we found there was a ruptured 32mm gas pipe alight directly next to a 11Kw electricity kiosk which had also caught fire. Approx 3 meters away was a 2 story house in danger of catching alight from the fire. The crew from Schofields quickly got to work to protect the house using a line of hose with FRNSW Riverstone arriving shortly after t...o assist with a second line of hose. All residents were evacuated by NSW Police to a distance of 200 meters for their safety. Crews continued to apply a protective water spray for some time utilizing crews from Kellyville and Blacktown stations until the Gas company could shut supply to the area. First Aid was rendered by FRNSW Riverstone to 1 worker who received burns to his arms prior to Brigade arrival and was assisted by NSW Ambulance on their arrival and transported to hospital. 20.01.2022 To most 343 is just a number. To nearly all firefighters around the world, it is a humbling reminder of the events that took place in New York on this day, 19 y...ears ago. This is because on 9/11, 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters did not finish their shift. The tragedy claimed the lives of 2977 innocent victims, and many continue to be impacted. To date, 227 additional firefighters have died with illnesses related to 9/11, with 27 names recently added to the FDNY World Trade Centre Memorial Wall. FRNSW shares deep and personal connections with FDNY, we will never forget the immediate and ongoing loss they were dealt and continue to deal with, all those affected are in our thoughts today. 19.01.2022 **A message from our Commissioner Paul Baxter** Today Fire and Rescue NSW pay tribute to all who have bravely served to protect our country. We have a close re...lationship with the armed forces, with many of our firefighters joining to serve the community after serving their country. This year we couldn’t attend services; so we join together in remembrance, as we stay apart. Lest we forget.

17.01.2022 Sunday training day. Prepared for Anything Fire and Rescue NSW train for all types of calls. Today was Rescue techniques on a 3 car MVA at the Emergency Services Academy. Fire-fighters have a saying of "prepare for the worst but hope for the best" so we regularly train for different types of scenarios. FRNSW Blacktown is a specialist Rescue station that carries a lot more Rescue equipment than the average station.... Today Schofields accompanied Blacktown to our Academy to refresh ourselves in Rescue techniques in relation to car accidents. Fire and Rescue NSW Station 063 Blacktown

14.01.2022 As the weather gets a bit colder we would like to remind everyone that outdoor heaters are for outdoors use only. Most outdoor heaters use a flame for heat and flames need oxygen to breathe and the fuel will give off carbon monoxide as it breaks down. Carbon monoxide is what comes out of your cars exhaust and you don't park your car in the living room. Also, if you have an indoors gas heater we recommend you have a window slightly open to allow fresh air in as a gas heater is... also using up your oxygen. Here are some examples of heaters and where they should be used. For more information, visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/winter

14.01.2022 Absolutely heartbreaking news out of Victoria overnight. We grieve with every member of Victoria Police and every member of the wider emergency services family.

13.01.2022 The first 24 hour shift of the year was a busy one for Schofields. We started with a fire duty in Minchinbury after a fire gutted a warehouse the previous day. On 31 December a fire had ripped through a warehouse in Colyton Rd. Minchinbury and on the first morning of the year Schofields were sent to put out any hot spots that may occur and assist Fire Investigation. At 0130 the next morning Schofields were responded to another incident that had occurred the day before. In th...e afternoon of 1 January a fuel truck and trailer had gone off the Great Western Highway at Medlow Bath. Schofields were sent to relieve crews that had been there for some time. Crews had decanted the fuel into another fuel truck and Schofields crew were to hose down the trailer while it was being righted. We had 2 lines of hose with 1 spraying a foam layer over the trailer to remove potential sparks from the friction of the chains and a second line with water spraying a fog in case of any static sparks caused. 11.01.2022 **A message from Commissioner Paul Baxter** It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Fire and Rescue NSW’s first commissioner, Commissioner Ian Mac...Dougall, AFSM, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82. Ian joined Fire and Rescue NSW in 1994 after a long career with the Royal Australian Navy. Ian rose through the ranks of the Navy achieving rank of Vice Admiral before stepping into the Commissioner’s role. He spent almost 10 years with FRNSW and was able to modernise the department by upgrading our communications and technology to ensure we were equipped for the future. During his time at FRNSW, Ian was appointed President of the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council. Ian will be dearly missed by everyone at FRNSW and we extend our condolences to all his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

10.01.2022 Vale Whitey, you will be missed.

01.01.2022 Here’s a full list of items you should be panic buying:

01.01.2022 With everything happening in the world, this is a chapter we are happy to finish as a Fire season many will never forget. Fire crews across the state, country and even the world came together to fight the good fight. The crews from 96 Schofields worked right across the state from Lismore in the North, Lithgow in the West and Ulladulla to the South. We hope the skills learnt stay in the memory bank and won’t be needed for a while.
