23.01.2022 New Funding for Little Scientists We are beyond excited to share with you last night's announcement by the Australian Government that it will continue to help funding our early STEM professional development program for early childhood educators all across Australia under the new Federal Budget. To date, we trained more than 6,700 educators and reached approx. 193,000 young children in 1,725 early education & care services since launching this branch of our organisation ...in 2013. Such a proud achievement. We collaborate closely with like-minded STEM education initiatives, particularly the Australian Academy of Science's suite of programs for primary and secondary school aged children, aiming to build a holistic STEM learning curriculum for children from the early years to Y 10. Here's to 5 more years of bringing inquiry-based early STEM exploration to children in Australia!

23.01.2022 In times when everyone is craving good news we’ve got some wonderful news for you. Huge congratulations to our two proud scholars from Germany, Antje and Jana, who both successfully completed their Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care under the most challenging circumstances in Melbourne. Their entire scholarship experience has been turned upside down; they only just made it to Australia earlier this year, literally as international borders were closing. An...tje even had to start off with two weeks in hotel quarantine before she was able to come to FROEBEL Fitzroy North for her first day. When we first advertised our scholarship program throughout Germany we said we were looking for adventurous people with a can-do-attitude. Little did we know how critical those character traits would prove to be. We couldn’t be any prouder of you, Antje and Jana. You are not only very professional and skilled educators but lovely colleagues and fantastic additions to our team! We dearly hope that you will soon be able to finally go and explore our beautiful country beyond the boundaries of Melbourne!

21.01.2022 We have teamed up with the Australian Academy of Science for this incredibly important campaign, raising awareness that "Solving tomorrow's problems starts today" - with coherent, quality inquiry-based STEM education programs from the Early Years to Y10. As Education Minister Dan Tehan MP said today: "The recovery from COVID-19 is going to be STEM driven." We want to be part of the solution. With our Little Scientists program for the Early Years and the Academy's suite of sch...ool age programs: PrimaryConnections, reSolve and Science By Doing. We are proud to be officially launching our campaign today with this brilliant talk with Academy Fellow and mathematician Professor Cheryl Praeger and mathematician and science communicator Adam Spencer about why we should encourage young people to study mathematics and other STEM subjects. #STEM #earlySTEM

09.01.2022 Our friends at the UOW: University of Wollongong, UOW Early Start offer a brilliant, free webinar this Wednesday evening from 7pm about the significance of early childhood education in relation to the health, wealth, wellbeing and development of children, families and communities. The impact of early childhood education and care depends largely on the effectiveness of the system, and more importantly on educators’ ability to create enriching, supportive, and safe environments.... This online event sheds light on the experiences of children effected by the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the Australian bushfires, by examining the impact of adversity on children, families and the community. An incredible opportunity to hear from two international early childhood education experts, Jane Bertrand and Tove Mogstad Slinde. Keynote speakers will be followed by a Q&A session. Jane Bertrand, Program Director at the Margaret and Wallace McCain Family Foundation in Canada, is an international expert in early childhood education. Tove Mogstad Slinde is a Senior Advisor in the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research in the Department of Early Childhood Education and Care. You can register for this free Zoom webinar here: https://uow-au.zoom.us/w/register/WN_6x8PlO4xRoy9vXXE1fRf0A

09.01.2022 Incredibly proud to share the news that our Professor Lynn Corcoran Early Learning Centre: FROEBEL Parkville are the Victorian State Winners of this year’s Little Scientists Early STEM Awards!!! The Kindergarten children and team submitted a fascinating STEM exploration project Germs Are Not For Sharing which emerged naturally during the COVID-19 pandemic and was an honest and accurate way to support children in making sense of their world and to minimise their anxiety ...or fear. Starting out with questions such as what germs look like, what they do, what they eat and whether they sleep, the children and educators decided to grow germs in three different conditions washed hands, sanitized hands and unwashed hands with the children taking the lead in setting up a lab and requesting specific equipment such as petri dishes, pipettes and goggles, which were donated by our families from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. Every day the children observed how the germs were growing in the sealed petri-dishes. They compared and documented the speed, amount and types of germs that grew, multiplied and perished in the three conditions and concluded that they had documented the least organisms growing from sanitised hands. The parents and the wider community were very involved, donating equipment, resources and technical know-how and even arranging for the germs to be analysed in WEHI’s research lab. The award panel was impressed with the systematic long-term approach, which actively integrated the children’s interests, skills and abilities. The thoughtful educators paused to understand children’s knowledge as a place to launch learning and continuously analysed and adjusted their own roles in this co-constructed learning environment. The project contributed to children’s deeper understanding of germs, gender stereotypes, inquiry skills, hygienic practices and emotional wellbeing and was concluded in a display showcasing the children’s innovative ideas and unique understanding of the pandemic. Bravo team Parkville! You have been setting such an example for the early childhood profession with this project, so rich in its exploration, and incredibly diverse and beautiful in its documentation!
