25.01.2022 Happy New Year... I hope 2020 is filled with health, happiness and success. Exciting times for Frontis, new partnerships and projects. ... I love working with organisations to plan strategy and manage change. This article articulates issues that are far too common. (and potentially avoided) What could you change in your leadership style?? For your reflection. https://hbr.org//8-things-leaders-do-that-make-employees-q
23.01.2022 Great leadership retreat in FNQ. I had to share this slide - I suspect we have all worked with or for these folks.
22.01.2022 Awesome day learning more about courage, play and human centred design.
21.01.2022 Love this........I often work with organisations that try to do it all. I see employees wear too many hats and their mangers wonder why nothing is achieved. Sometimes, it takes an outside observer to identify strategic opportunities for improvement. ... Frontis Consulting works with organisations to plan a better path forward. Happy Monday.
20.01.2022 A powerful message....

14.01.2022 Does your leadership follow its own publicly boasted values-based system? Are your organisational values real or fake? Scan any strategic plan or annual report, and you will see them in black and white or even carved in sandstone. Beyond the pretty templates and policies for every known process, are organisational values embedded in everyday activities. Does the leadership follow what it publicly values?... Here area few examples of misalignment; The organisation values "equity and opportunity" yet the leadership is made up of white middle-class men; indeed, the administration would have difficulty developing and maintaining real legitimacy. I’ll bet the same direction wonders why women leave the organisation. A colleague in the health-care space told me of their organisation’s value of Compassion, yet the board and leadership fostered a culture of bullying. This same organisation also prided its self on Transparency, with the leadership being mistrusted by staff due to the many hidden agendas. THE VALUE OF REAL VALUES. I love that values-based organisations exist. Beyond the PnL and balance sheets, many organisations have a triple bottom line of impact and purpose and are great places to work and thrive. As a leader, you must align with organisational values you promote to be seen as authentic, and in turn, this will impact organisational behaviour. Just like fake news, fake costs are easy to spot and can ruin an organisation's culture in minimal time. Examining "Values" alignment is an excellent diagnostic tool when unpacking organisational cultural discourse and developing a road map forward.
13.01.2022 Thank you to Enterprise Ireland for hosting such a great event today. I was delighted to attend on behalf of Tangible Ireland and meet many enterprises who do business across the clans .
13.01.2022 What would your employees print on their Christmas t- shirt? I reckon this message would be relevant to a number of employees I meet. Regardless of the sector, health, aged care, gas, small business or technology. Can I suggest a few things for all leaders;... - Learn from your team, - Create solutions with your team and - Invest in supporting transformational change. Working with a range of organisations, the message is consistent. Something to ponder as you prepare for 2021! Stay true, talk straight and engage with your team.

10.01.2022 This sums up how I feel about today. Yes - I believe we should have a day to celebrate the many beautiful things I love about Australia. But....lets not use a date that is the anniversary of murder and loss of our indigenous peoples.... I hope we change the date to enable equal celebration for all Australians. #respect #alwayswasalwayswillbe

07.01.2022 I love Fridays!! As a Consultant, I find Fridays to be the best day to have the frank and necessary conversations required. (Yes, there are always exceptions) The hectic start of the week has passed, the office is not as busy, and the mood is more casual.... I find this is the day, when the executives I work with are more receptive to hear about the "white whispers" and the informal "cultural blockers" that may be stopping the progress required. Conversation often turns to internal channels and engagement tactics required. Fridays are perfect for building enduring relationships. Monday I'll have Friday on my mind!

07.01.2022 Leading great teams is a long game...the right team members with clear vision. I am always amazed at the divisive forces that can impact and ruin the potential of a great team. Emotional and social intelligent leadership is essential.... I found this quote over the weekend and it really resonated with me.

05.01.2022 Frank conversations are essential. As a consultant I speak with many executives in an informal fashion about a range of topics, especially employee engagement. Michele So Bob, tell me more about your open and collegial environment... Bob Michele I have an open door policy to enable true transparency. Michele so how’s that working for you? Bob Well I figure everyone must be OK, It’s been a while since anyone knocked on my door Gordon Young from Ethilogical articulates this well; line is that open door policies may be well intended, but from the employee's perspective they're often considered a trap. For an employee to volunteer information about a problem to someone with power over them they are making themselves vulnerable to that person; surrendering what power they retained over their manager via retention of Information. Once it's disclosed it's entirely up to the manager how to react to it - they might react constructively, but they also might dismiss it or react destructively. The choice is *entirely* theirs. Even where policy prohibits destructive behaviour, the employee is very aware that the manager has more room for interpretation and enforcement of that policy than they do, and with some basic creativity they can punish the employee without technically breaching any laws. Long story short; the intention of the accountability mechanism doesn't matter. What matters is whether is *actually* provides security to those you're asking to make vulnerable. I think Bob might be dreaming what do you think??
05.01.2022 Are you a Passive Aggressive leader? When I ask leaders this question, I get a resounding No whether they be members of an executive team or a Board of Directors, but is that the truth? Can you handle the truth? Passive Aggressive leadership can include those leaders who are fun, and well- liked but rarely have a direct conversation to address a critical issue, instead they love to restructure and work around important issues. ... I am a big fan of direct conversations; I like the term Stoic Compassion. The virtues of Stoicism include wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation. Leaders also need to be authentic and compassionate, this in turn will impact your culture and help you build the trust that is necessary. The culture you create will serve you when the chips are down. Before you start scrutinising your team check out the person in the mirror. The higher you are up in the food chain the more important it is to have soft skills and humanise your role. Not doing this may render you illegitimate in the eyes of those you lead. Profit and or purpose are great motivators for leaders and those in their charge. However for some ill-equipped, less than authentic leaders, so is the thrill of an ambush, a surprise restructure, or another win. Power is complex and the aftermath can be complex, expensive, and difficult to move forward from. Leadership starts at the top and that is the perfect place to start a new tempo. It is when the leadership is authentic, brave, and honest that a highly functional team can be created Are you able to form healthy relationships with the people you lead or are you the passive-aggressive type who is two-faced, ambushes in public forums, and creates opportunities to play ego power games, without courageous and honest dialogue? I am a big fan of Stoic Compassion, what is your preferred type of leadership?

03.01.2022 Today I was inspired by nature. Together with my family, we witnessed the eastern whale migration off the coast of southern NSW. This time each year, hump-back whales and head south to feed on krill. Wow!! What a show.... These whales were almost extinct 50 years ago, hunted for meat and materials. The whales have had to re build their population. Rebuilding takes time, and 50 years on, the whales are not at the levels they once were. Even today, humans continue to put these beautiful mammals at risk, through over-fishing and the impact of micro-plastics in the ocean. Watching whales migrate got me thinking about the need for people and organisations to change environmental conditions, to meet emerging needs. To survive you must move and change or risk starvation. An effective organisational ecosystem needs a combination of essential elements. Some consistent, some ever-changing. Organisations need to be agile and focus on current need. The tricky bit is to ensure that todays actions will build essential capability for tomorrows ambition. While change and spring cleaning may be required, collateral damage can reduce capability, capacity and create a dysfunctional culture which will never reach its potential. And when an organisation gets it wrong, the re build may never align with the organisations true potential. Thank you nature for demonstrating how todays actions can have a lasting impact. (Both good and bad) #strategist #organization #culture #change
