24.01.2022 What an amazing day we had at the Finnish Hall on Sunday, October 20th! The 15th Anniversary of the Baltic Festival was celebrated with the theme "Spring". The Finnish Hall was decorated in true Spring spirit, but the true feel of this celebration was felt with brilliant performances delivered to a full house! We are so grateful to everyone in the audience, all the performers, all clubs, everyone in the kitchen and of course Hobsons Bay City Council for their support of our festival. It is such a privilege to be part of cultural experiences like this, we can't wait for next year's festival to be hosted by the Latvians! All photos by Tuire Karaharju-Huisman

19.01.2022 We had an absolutely magical afternoon at this Finnish Hall today, 15th December. Starting with a classic carol of 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' on the Clarinet by Emilia, followed by the Declaration of Christmas Peace read by Elora and Nora. A traditional Christmas feast was prepared by the elves in the kitchen. The Kinkku / Ham was cooked to perfection - It is definitely not christmas without it. Suomi-koulu / Finnish School put on an amazing program for the kids, with... singalongs, tree decorating, and performances by their students. Santa even traveled all the way from Lapland to visit all little children early for being so good! Hugo then played 'Waltz' on his guitar and 'We wish you a merry Christmas' by Niko on Piano. - All the children are wonderfully talented, their performances were amazing! The afternoon was then brought to a close with coffee, friends, and overall merriment. Hyvää joulua kaikille / Merry Christmas everyone! Have a safe and happy holidays!

18.01.2022 Today has been a busy day of setting up and cooking for the Family Christmas party tomorrow. It is shaping up to be a very merry Christmas indeed. To thank everyone who have booked we are giving them each a raffle ticket for their chance to win prizes! Didn't book? Tickets will still be available at the door, but we can't guarantee you enough food.

12.01.2022 What a day we had at the Finnish Hall celebrating the 102nd anniversary of Finnish Independence. The day started with a church service held by visiting pastor Keijo Plit. The official program commenced with flag parade to the music of Porilaisten marssi followed by the national anthems. After the official welcome of the president of the Finnish Society, Jori Tossavainen, we watched Finland's president Sauli Niinistö's wishes to all expatriate Finns. The choir of the Finnish ...Society, the Spirit of Finland, performed four songs with especially Finlandia lifting the national spirit. After the choir it was time to celebrate our veterans and lottas. We are very lucky to still have veterans whose bravery in supporting Finnish independence we can celebrate. Veterans August Sirkel and Raivo Rähni and little lottas Ritva Tuominiemi and Raili Ruuska, as well as Vietnam war veteran Lauri Heiskanen received their appreciation flowers. Lotta Pauliina Laitila celebrated her 100th birthday this year but sadly was not able to join us. The program continued with the performance of the Finnish Pentecostal choir followed by the festive speech by Eero Suomalainen. The final performance of the day was by the folk dancers of the Finnish Society. The tables were yet again filled by Finnish delicacies bringing the celebrations to a great finish. Thank you to all the performers, all helpers and everyone who joined us in celebrating Finland. See more

12.01.2022 On the last Sunday of March the Finnish Hall of Melbourne was finally full of life! When the previously planned rerun of the AGM had to be cancelled due to a snap lock down, everyone had their fingers crossed that we would be lucky in March. On a sunny day we finally opened the doors to the official welcome bbq of 2021! Finnish baseball players came straight from the field and the kitchen team prepared another delicious bbq lunch. The day finished with our AGM. As there is ...only 6 months left until the 2021 AGM the current board offered to continue until that time, which was unanimously accepted. The main topics of the meeting were the renovations during Covid giving the hall a fresh look, and budget. With last year's inability to raise funds, we have to come up with ideas for events and actions. We welcome everyone to join our events and help us to keep the society strong. See more
