20.01.2022 We are saddened by the news that one of the Ferntree Gully Football Netball Clubs true gentleman John Milburn, passed away yesterday. Our sincere condolences go out to Elaine and the family. John was a great man who played, officiated and supported Ferntree Gully for a long time.... He began his career back in the 1950's playing in 1960,61 1st XVIII premiership teams including a best on ground performance in 1961. He was recognised for this effort with selection in the Best Premiership team for 125yrs on the wing. He would play in 2 reserve premierships following before retiring as a player. In the mid 1990's john returned to the club as a committee member and eventually taking the reigns as President and finally Secretary. He presided through some tough times at the club but what remained a constant was his true great character and passion for the Gully. John was honoured with Life Membership and in 2017 with an extremely emotional acceptance speech, he was also inducted into the club Hall of Fame. He was loved by all and for the players of today a great role model in how you carry yourself. Rest Easy John you were and will always be remembered as a truely great person. (Thank you John Turner for the lovely write up)
