25.01.2022 Two games for two wins on the weekend! Liam Hunt in the 1s tipped the game firmly in our favour, bowling his 8 straight at the top with a return of 6/28, and then followed that up with a positive 39 with the bat Wes Wieclaw in the 2s got his chance with the ball this week and returned figures of 3/18. Comfortably the pick of the bowlers in the 2s. ... Wes is sponsored by Round About Cafe, if your in the area drop in to the Cafe and grab a Coffee to support those who support us

25.01.2022 Each day 8 Australians commit suicide. Since the global pandemic has started, that number has jumped to 12. Thats a cricket team taking their own life daily. R U OK?... Today 10th of September 2020 is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with lifes ups and downs. Give your mates a call, a text or even a carrier pigeon to check up on someone, that contact could save a life. It takes 4 very easy steps. 1. Ask someone RUOK? 2. Listen with an open mind * Take what they say seriously and dont interrupt or rush the conversation. * Dont judge their experiences or reactions but acknowledge that things seem tough for them. * If they need time to think, sit patiently with the silence. * Encourage them to explain: "How are you feeling about that?" or "How long have you felt that way?" * Show that youve listened by repeating back what youve heard (in your own words) and ask if you have understood them properly. 3. Encourage action * Ask: What have you done in the past to manage similar situations? * Ask: How would you like me to support you?" * Ask: Whats something you can do for yourself right now? Something thats enjoyable or relaxing? * You could say: "When I was going through a difficult time, I tried this... You might find it useful too." * If theyve been feeling really down for more than 2 weeks, encourage them to see a health professional. You could say, "It might be useful to link in with someone who can support you. Im happy to assist you to find the right person to talk to. * Be positive about the role of professionals in getting through tough times. 4. Check in * Pop a reminder in your diary to call them in a couple of weeks. If theyre really struggling, follow up with them sooner. * You could say: "Ive been thinking of you and wanted to know how youve been going since we last chatted." * Ask if theyve found a better way to manage the situation. If they havent done anything, dont judge them. They might just need someone to listen to them for the moment. * Stay in touch and be there for them. Genuine care and concern can make a real difference. For those that may be struggling, please dont battle it alone. Its ok to not be ok. We are in this together! Please dont hesitate to use the professional helplines available, they are contactable 24/7 Lifeline: 13 11 14 Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636

22.01.2022 Player Announcement FTG Footballers are thrilled to announce the return of premiership player Tafadzwa Kamungozi for the upcoming season. Taffy came to us in 2017/18 and was a key part of the Decoite premiership side, before moving to Olinda where he was the First XI Captain and took on the responsibility of club Coach. Taf already has a great relationship with our Junior players and is keen to continue to help the program grow, this is a great announcement for the cl...ub we are sure that this news will be well received amongst all of the Footballers Family. Taf arrived at Footballers as an International leg spinner who has represented Zimbabwe, and his importance to the side only strengthened when he started bowling pace at training and began taking the new ball in games. The last few years Taf has become the premier bowler in Decoite and we are excited to see him now continue to show his talents in Norm Reeves. Tau proved to be a handful this year, the combination of Taf and Tau will be a pleasure to watch. Welcome back Taffy, stay tuned for more announcements to come shortly.

18.01.2022 FTG Footballers has been informed that both Cohen McElroy and Liam Hunt will be moving on to take on roles with other clubs next season. Cohen has been with Footballers for the past 6 years, captain for the past 4 and was a non playing Coach to our Decoite winning side due to a season ending knee injury. Big shoes to fill but we are thankful for his commitment and involvement with Footballers over this time and wish him all the best going forward. Liam coached our Under 16s ...this year and brought an unorthodox style to First XI cricket. We'll be ensuring the field is always set to handle the ramp whenever he is at the crease. Regarding Taf's recruitment, the club is reluctant to get in a public battle of words with other clubs. We do however feel the need to reply to the inaccuracies in the message delivered by Olinda as all of the ethical measures when leaving a club took place. Olinda were understandably disappointed to lose a player like Taf, just as any club would be when they are told players wish to move on. Olinda were informed of Taf's decision to leave prior to our announcement and whilst there were other aspects of the message that weren't correct, we expect those details were not passed on to the president before his public message was released. Taf is grateful for the support given by Olinda, and equally hopes they are just as grateful for the return he has given them. Any further comments on any of the announcements made today will be done so privately.

14.01.2022 Player Welfare Role With all the uncertainty and drama in the world, well before the COVID-19 pandemic came into play but certainly now more than ever, the Ferntree Gully Footballers Committee felt it was time to implement some structure and guidance to support everyone involved with our club. Blair Neill approached the committee earlier this year, with the honest assessment that life has its challenges and with mental health being a huge part of many lives, he wants to be a... positive face for those around him to turn to in any scenario. The aim is to provide a supportive platform for everyone no matter your situation, someone who can listen and offer assistance, provide guidance and point anyone who needs assistance in the right direction. Blairs charismatic personality is ideal for this role and given his own personal challenges and his passion towards mental health, we are proud as a club to have him representing us in this space. There will be a club meeting once we are back regarding the full extent of the role, escalations and processes. All conversations with Blair will be confidential and all players and supporters can feel comfortable knowing that he will have their best intentions in play. For anyone who is struggling with mental health, please dont battle it alone. Its ok to not be ok, we are all in this together. Please dont hesitate to use the professional helplines available, they are contactable 24/7. Lifeline: 13 11 14 Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636

14.01.2022 FTG Footballers are excited to announce the signing of another high quality International, with Taurai Muzarabini signing with the club for the next couple of seasons. Taurai is an attacking fast bowler that has 8 ODIs and 9 T20s to his name for Zimbabwe, as well as an extensive first class career, and has picked up some big scalps along the way, removing the likes of Kane Williamson, Mushfiq Rahim and Tamim Iqbal during his International duties with Zimbabwe. Since playing ...for Zimbabwe, Taurai has continued to play first class cricket in Zimbabwe as well as travelling on three occasions to the UK for cricket. Luckily for us, Taurai is already in Melbourne and will bring a decent amount of confidence and experience to the club. Taurai is now looking to make Melbourne home and with the great success that Taf was for the club, we are confident that Taurai will be a welcome addition to the Ballers.

Amal is an attacking off spinner who will be another solid contributor with the bat. He joins the club with a high recommendation from Thara, they played a lot of First Class cricket together back in Sri Lanka and now calls Australia home. Amal played his past three seasons at Newport Cricket Club which included best figures of 7/14 last year.... He is an experienced player who we have no doubt will be a great addition to our club on and off the field. Welcome Amal and we look forward to seeing you at pre-season training!

10.01.2022 Player Announcement A great start to the week just got better, FTG Footballers are excited to announce our newest recruit Lyle D'Rozario to the club. Lyle brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our club, having spent the last 9 years at Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club as a left arm spinner, spending the majority of his career in the First and Second XI. In his final year he was the captain of the Second XI and was the leading wicket taker for the club in this gr...ade. With his work life taking up a lot of time and a wedding not far away, the timing was right to step back into local cricket. We couldn't be happier to welcome Lyle and his fiancé Sarah to the club, we are thrilled to have you on board and we look forward to a big season ahead.

10.01.2022 With lockdown in full swing, is there a better time to ask the playing group for their thoughts on which player they look up to the most at the club?
