If for any reason your child will not be training on those dates plz let ne know so I can present theirs early. Thanks to all parents and families for your on going support. Sensei.

17.01.2022 This weekend saw four of our senior members all mature family or professional people sit their shodan black belt grading. Our policy is to conduct all gradings at our main dojo in Cairns however to facilitate this grading with Shihan Con Kassis via Zoom it was done at our Kuranda home. From left Lauren, Sayaka, Nellie and Dave were subjected to two hours of examination on core value karate subjects and application. Shihan Con is of course as a World judge/referee one of th...e most credentialed persons alive to conduct such an examination. He is across all styles and in demand world wide. We are lucky to have him as a friend and mentor. Although there were some nerves and apprehension overall the sound basic training we have imparted seemed to show through and with one small written element to complete next week they all seem well positioned to progress. We are a dojo who adopts a universal approach to karate and takes the middle road. Already well and truly established at State and National level competition, we balance our training with practical self defence and detailed kata bunkai knowledge. Dan level grading are orientated towards this side of the Karate tree. Our members were examined on kata performance and bunkai knowledge, effective self defense from natural positions, ippon kumite with various distances, techniques and timing both right and left sides. Shitoryu History, karate terminology and philosophy. Every contact with Shihan Con brings a wealth of knowledge into our circle. The future is bright for our well established and time tested dojo. We look forward to a much bigger grading with up to ten Nidan and Shodan applicants towards the end of 2021. Hopefully Shihan Con can attend in person. Meanwhile with Queensland Opens and National Titles looming train hard in every aspect of karate. Well done team. See more

11.01.2022 Gradings junior and senior will be held in Kuranda 8 December and Cairns 9 December 2020. They will be at normal class times. In recent times our dojo which was already well established has doubled in size. We are recruiting new students every week with no advertising other than face book and our reputation. This means there is a necessity to extend our classes. I will discuss details of this on our members only page. Shitoryu has long been the dominant style of karate ...practiced in Cairns. It is a style based on technical excellence and skill which requires strong basics to be drilled into all students through the kyu belt gradings. If this is done properly the student can reach his or her full potential. As a Sensei gradings are also my chance to shape young lives in a positive way. It is my aim to teach them (the kids) to set high personal standards and work hard for anything that is truly worthwhile. We have adopted a lot of young students recently who have gained karate experience elsewhere. In this case I firstly have to build a relationship with them and then align them with the standards expected in our dojo, this also takes a little bit of time, if it is done properly then future gradings will be less challenging for them and the results well worth the short wait. In other words I want them on top of things. We are affiliated with the Mabuni Dojo who are the founding family of this major world renown style. Our connection is through Sensei Con Kassis a personal student of the late Kenei Mabuni, son of the founder and Inheritor of style. Con is Technical Chairman to the World Karate Federation, a world judge and referee, on the karate Olympic committee and in constant demand in over fifty countries for his expert knowledge on every detail of the style and a close friend to our dojo. He visits every year and last time bought Antonio Oliva, world renown Spanish National Coach and Luis Marisane, multipul Spanish Kumite Champion and World Kata champion. Notwithstanding Covid we can expect more giants of the karate world to visit for a spot of fishing and to assist us in coming years. We are well connected and set up to go forward as a Universal dojo enjoying our tournaments and studying the deeper traditions and techniques of karate. To the parents I thank you for your trust and ask you be patient while I take the time needed to do the job properly. I know a few of the kids are disappointed at not being invited to grade this time. It is always hard for me to make those decisions. Dianne and I will be working hard to have them ready for April/May grading in 2021. Karate is more than just a set of skills, it is a school of life. I am looking forward to seeing all my student reach their full potential. Thank you once again Sensei. See more
