18.01.2022 Anyone remember what year this was? Car percussion: the most fun you can have with an old car and a sledge hammer!

16.01.2022 Funjungle circa 1987: L to R: Ruedi Homberger, Frank Marino, Leigh James and Garry Steel. I (Leigh James) moved to Cairns in 1986 and was playing solo and looking around for likely candidates for a band i heard in my head, jazz and latin leanings but not too snobbish to play more popular tunes! Well i can't remember the bar i stumbled into but there was a drummer there and he had 'presence' and was really conscientious about making the gig as good as he possibly good! We met... in a break, and i (audaciously, in retrospect!) told him about the band i wanted to form and Frank and I became immediate friends! He told me about Ruedi Homberger, the swiss sax player in Kuranda and that was it! Both these guys had studied jazz at tertiary level, and i was a busker (well i'd played in a couple of bands) But i was willing to learn fast. And so was the new recruit in town: Garry Steel, keyboard wiz and all round great vibe from Tamworth via Kalgoorlie! He was used to hundreds of country sessions and had been sideman for legends but was up for the task at hand, and Garry & I immersed ourselves in chords and rhythms that Frank and Ruedi would throw at us, and hold on for dear life, especially in the beginning! Well we found a way to improvise on a whole range of music from around the globe and make it fun enough for us, an audience or a full dance floor! Looking forward to seeing these guys and fellow funjungler, Joe Vizzone again in October at the Tablelands Folk Festival. Been too long! See more

08.01.2022 Great gig last night at the garden stage here at Yungaburra! Thanks to all the kuranda folk who came out to dance...hope to see you tonight same place similar time! (10pm)

05.01.2022 Joe Vizzone, (sporting one of the infamous FJ 'loud' shirt anti fashion statements): longtime Funjungle drummer (1988-92) and guiding light. Joe's influence and interest in all types of music and world rhythms was immensely important to the direction of the band. He and his collaborations continue at the cutting edge of improvised music in Australia including current settings: The North Project (with Ruedi Homberger, Wayne Macintosh, Giles Smith, Tommy See Poy) and capturing/mastering all kinds of audio and video projects at his Sound Sculptors Studio in the natural bushland of the Atherton Tablelands. [Cairns Botanic Gardens: 1988]
