25.01.2022 FROM A NURSE WHO CAUGHT THE VIRUS..................................................................For people who think Coronaviris is just like the flu... This... is from a nurse who became sick: "COVID19 is not like the flu...at all... How do I know? Because Ive lived through it to tell the tale! Memoirs of a 31 y.o. male with no underlying health conditions. March 3, 2020-Bronchitis like illness started, dry cough, no fever March 5, 2020-Low grade fever starts, still thinking bronchitis March 6, 2020-Fever climbs from 99.8 to 102.6 in one hour, thought it was flu and was now outside the Tamiflu window, stayed home for symptom management. March 9, 2020-Fever of >102 continues, this isnt flu, go to urgent care, diagnosed with pneumonia, started on Levaquin. March 11, 2020-3 doses of Levaquin in, no improvement in symptoms, go to ER. Admitted, swabbed for COVID19, IV antibiotics got pneumonia on chest CT. March 12, 2020-Get to a room and placed on supplemental oxygen via nasal cannula, 1 liter per minute (lpm). Im only able to achieve 500 on my incentive spirometer, for perspective-my healthy lungs could hit 4000. March 13, 2020-O2 saturation begins to decline, oxygen increased to 2 lpm, then 3 lpm, then 5 lpm. Oxygen saturation 88% on 5 lpm. The decision is made to use high flow (vapotherm) and move to ICU. Placed on 40 lpm and 60% oxygen. Im terrified at this point because vapotherm is all that is standing between me and the ventilator. This is the moment I would have died at home had I not come to the hospital when I did. I would have respiratory arrested in my bed. March 14, 2020-I have a bad coughing spell, my oxygen saturation drops to the 80s. Im still on 40 lpm and 60%. Im trying to gasp for air, but because of the condition of my lungs, can only take small breaths without coughing more. I feel as though Im about to die, my heart is racing, oxygen still low, and Im sweating profusely. Im in respiratory distress! I pressed my call light trying to get the attention of anyone who can help. My nurse was in another room tending to another sick patient. Fortunately he sees me and comes to my room. I am now on 40 lpm and 100% oxygen, next step is the ventilator. Im terrified. My breathing slows as my oxygen saturation slowly returns to the 90s. Im weaned back down to 60%. The same thing happens again in the night, and again I thought I was about to leave this world. Again Im on 100%, this time for several hours. Im slowly weaned again to 60%. March 15, 2020-My morning arterial blood gas (which hurts like a ) is normal. I get weaned to 50%. March 16, 2020-My oxygen saturation is 97%, Im weaned further to 30 lpm and 40%. March 17, 2020-Ive been in ICU 4 days, forced to use a bedpan because my oxygen saturation drops if I turn or even move too much. I am unable to clean myself; Im feeling completely helpless and so embarrassed, but my nurses were great and very understanding. I now truly understand my patients feelings from all these years of nursing. Im weaned to 25 lpm and 30%. Im going to the medical floor. March 18, 2020-Im weaned to 28%. I can achieve 1500 on my incentive spirometer finally. Im hopeful to be weaned to a regular nasal cannula. The provider comes in. Ive been waiting for my swab results. I tested positive for COVID19...6.5 days of waiting for the outside lab to process the lab. Im relieved because I finally have a diagnosis, a reason Ive been so sick. Im weaned to 4 lpm on a regular nasal cannula, 4 hours later Im weaned to 2 lpm. 4 hours later Im weaned to room air. My oxygen saturation stats 93% and above all night. March 19, 2020-As I write this, Im waiting to attempt a 6 minute walk test to see if my oxygen stays up, so I can go home. Ive had no visitors this entire time due to my isolation precautions. Guys, this is why social isolation is a thing. As a 31 y.o., I wasnt supposed to get sick. I wasnt supposed to be admitted to the hospital or the ICU for that matter. Weve already had several deaths from COVID19 in this area. I thank God I wasnt one of them! However, many wont be as fortunate as I have been. Many will die, especially those with any lung or heart problems. So please, I beg you to #stayhome "

23.01.2022 A Christmas wish from Funtastic Productions & Santa In Melbourne.

23.01.2022 Just some firsts for me and other people from staying in an evacuation town - what we are all going through is unprecedented and will go for a few more weeks ye...t. Just remember the person paying for food in front of you may have just been made homeless. I have never stayed in a motel where no one is on holiday I have never seen so many grown men cry, let alone at breakfast with a table of firies while some of them cried as well. I have never seen people collapse in tears while reaching for a toothbrush or a plastic plate in a supermarket cause they have nothing left. I have never seen multitudes of women with children trying to wipe tears in the bathroom, while telling their kids they are happy tears and everything is going to be ok when everything is actually gone, including their favourite teddy. I have never seen people hitchhiking who are covered from head to toe with soot because thats the only way they can get to a safe place. I have never myself been so scared of the sky going black again when it was just a storm. I have never thrown up over worrying about whether Im going to be able to escape, or have to get into a boat with embers falling like snow... and yes, embers (when they do fall) look like ignited snow. I have never been so covered in soot that I have had to have multiple showers to get it out of my hair. I have never gone to a petrol station to have it closed in the middle of the day day, leaving me stranded and not able to go any further, except back to the motel. I have never seen the sky like midnight at 2pm in the afternoon. I have never seen hundreds of kangaroos wombats, foxes and deer in the middle of the road all running together, trying to escape the fires while I am trying to drive with poor visibility without hitting them. I have never had over 20 friends call me in one day to tell ne their house is gone. I have never seen burnt, dead animals stuck in fences because they were trying to escape a fire. Ive never checked into a motel and then ended up cleaning the rooms because no workers were available to do it. Ive never spoken to people before who honestly couldnt tell me the last time they ate or drank anything. Ive never had the windscreen wiper water tank in my car so clogged with soot that it stopped working, forcing me to handwipe my windscreen, drive five metres and then pull over to wipe my windscreen again of soot. Ive never had to beg a FWD with spotlights to escort me the two streets I had to go to get back to my motel because I couldnt see from falling soot. Ive never had to wonder if my husband was safe as he stayed behind to work to support his local community. Ive never given my breakfast and a two litre bottle of water to a starving woman, only to watch her devour it and scull 1.5L of water straight without taking a break to breathe. Ive never had to tell my son that we cant have Chinese, KFC, or pizza or even service station food because theyve all closed. Ive never been so happy to receive an alert from a supermarket to say they have milk in stock again. I have never until this week. People are tired of feeling scared. Its not just affecting a few. Its the biggest fire disaster the world has ever seen. So remember that person in front of you may have jsut had to fight for their life and are now in your town or city trying to breathe and regroup.

17.01.2022 I hope this isn't true but sadly it probably is happening SCAM ALERT COVID-19 TESTING And so it begins!... Just to let you know these phone calls are going round. ‘Good morning, According to our system, you are likely to have been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This means that you now need to self-isolate for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test.' 'OK. Can you tell me who that person was?' 'I'm not able to tell you that. That is confidential information.' 'Right. Um... so ....' 'But you do need to be tested within the next 72 hours. So can I just get the best mailing address so that we can send a kit to you?' 'Ok (gives address)' 'Thank you - and I just need to take a payment card so that we can finalize this and send the kit to you.' 'Sorry - a payment card? I thought this was all free?' 'No - I'm afraid not. There is a one-off fee of $50 for the kit and test results. Could you read off the long card number for me, please, when you're ready.' 'No - that's not right. 'I'm afraid it is. Can you give me the card number please - this is very important, and there are penalties for not complying.' Puts the phone down. This is how scammers work. And vulnerable people will fall for it. Don't fall for it...! COPY and PASTE watch out

13.01.2022 Written by a nurse who works with ventilators: For people who don't understand what it means to be on a ventilator but want to take the chance of lockdown bein...g lifted.... For starters, it's NOT an oxygen mask put over the mouth while the patient is comfortably lying down and reading magazines. Ventilation for Covid-19 is a painful intubation that goes down your throat and stays there until you live or you die. It is done under anesthesia for 2 to 3 weeks without moving, often upside down, with a tube inserted from the mouth up to the trachea and allows you to breathe to the rhythm of the lung machine. The patient can't talk or eat, or do anything naturally - the machine keeps you alive. The discomfort and pain they feel from this means medical experts have to administer sedatives and painkillers to ensure tube tolerance for as long as the machine is needed. It's like being in an artificial coma. Add a tube into your stomach, either through your nose or skin for liquid food, a sticky bag around your butt to collect the diarrhea, a foley to collect urine, an IV for fluids and meds, an A-line f to monitor your BP that is completely dependent upon finely calculated med doses, teams of nurses, CRNA’s and MA’s to reposition your limbs every two hours and lying on a mat that circulates ice cold fluid to help bring down your 104 degree temp. After 20 days from this treatment, a young patient loses 40% muscle mass, and gets mouth or vocal cords trauma, as well as possible pulmonary or heart complications. It is for this reason that old or already weak people can't withstand the treatment and die. Many of us are in this boat ... so stay safe unless you want to take the chance of ending up here. This is NOT the flu. Anyone want to try all that out? Stay home. Stay safe and well!

12.01.2022 Ok, so, heres some venting and some explaining and if you dont like it, I honestly dont care. Move on and good day to you. This has easily been the longest 2... months of my career, and, for that matter, my life. COVID-19 has changed everything. The way we live, the way our kids learn, the way we work. It has trashed the economy, exploded unemployment, and harmed businesses, many of them, sadly, beyond repair. But heres the deal: its real and its here and its still spreading. As a healthcare worker, Im exhausted. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. As a manager in the the healthcare industry, its been one of the longest, most stressful things Ive tackled. First off, the truthers and the conspiracy people and the protesters, youre not helping. The people bitching CONSTANTLY about the governors or whatever level of governments handling of things, its not constructive. Do you want to know why medical people, real medical people, not some crackpot quacks and kooks with a YouTube account or Facebook page, are taking this seriously? Because its serious. And were serious people when it comes to peoples health and their lives. Yes, it mostly kills at-risk populations (the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions) but it also kills perfectly healthy people with no prior diagnoses and we dont know why. Im so tired of people acting like theres information thats being cooked up or withheld. You know why theres lots of gaps in the information? Because were still learning about this virus every day. Its new. Its never been seen. How it acts, how it spreads, why it does the things it does is all new and were learning on the fly. Stop mistaking genuine lack of information for misinformation or withheld information. The numbers: this one sticks in my craw like no other. I heard they didnt die from COVID-19, they died from a heart attack but they were positive so they called it COVID-19 to boost the numbers and scare people. Stop. It. You know how many people died specifically from AIDS? Zero. AIDS patients die from pneumonia or some other illness normal, healthy people fight off because the AIDS virus destroyed their immune system and they couldnt fight off the infection. But at the heart of it, they died because of AIDS. The coronavirus attacks the respiratory system. The respiratory system is, in case you didnt know, pretty important to sustaining life. It also has a huge impact on how other organ systems, like the heart, work. Guess what, when your lungs dont work because theyve basically filled with brick mortar because the virus is attacking them, that puts a bit of a strain on your ticker and very well can cause it to fail. So unless you have a basic understanding of or want to understand how interconnected organ systems are and how the body fundamentally functions: stop. I think I can speak for a lot of medical professionals when I say, we dont mean to be arrogant, we dont mean to be jerks, but damn it, this bullshit is frustrating and yes, were going to clap back to ignorance. Ignorance is not something to be flaunted and there is a difference between ignorance and stupidity. Ignorance is being uninformed. Stop being willfully ignorant and even reveling in it because it doesnt fit your preconceived narrative or opinion. Even worse, stop pretending youre not ignorant because you watched some damn YouTube video or read some op-ed piece. Thats someones opinion, normally based on nothing. NOTHING. No research. Thats not information. Thats not factual. Thats not based in science. Its click-bait with the sole intention of riling you up and getting you to let your guard down. And instead of being pissed at the virus thats causing all this, its to direct your anger at the government or doctors or anywhere else their agenda wants it directed. Medical people are fired up for a couple reasons. 1 month ago, we were all heroes and putting our lives on the line because this was dangerous stuff. Well, I think I can speak for most of us when I say we arent heroic, were just doing our job. But guess what, were still doing the same damn thing we were doing a month ago and this crap still hasnt gone away but now were just trying to scare people because its really no big deal. We arent looking for a pat on the back or even a thank you, we just want you to do what we all need to do to stop this thing and avoid the spread. Listen, if you think that my big fat ass enjoys sweating like a whore in church in an isolation gown, walking around like Mr Magoo because my glasses are fogged up because of my mask, and wearing goggles that dig into the backs of my ears because Im just a sheep, you are mistaken. Its because I dont want this virus and I dont want to take it home to my family and I dont want to infect my co-workers and other patients. Were fired up because weve seen and even performed intubations. We dont intubate for funsies. Outside of the surgical setting, an intubation is basically throwing a Hail Mary to save someones life. And when the mortality rate once that plastic tube slides between your vocal cords with COVID-19 is 85-89%, yeah, thats terrifying. This virus is dangerous. Lastly, stop being spoiled children about public health advisories. Stop bitching about wearing a mask when youre in public places. Stop pretending that that is somehow infringing on your rights. Get over yourself. I wish all businesses would grow a pair and refuse service to people who refuse to wear a mask out of principle. Police arent inclined to enforce it and thats fine but, spoiler alert, private businesses have and reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Dont tell me its ok for a bakery to refuse service to a gay couple for a wedding cake on religious grounds but not ok for a convenience store to refuse service because they dont want the outbreak monkey strolling through their place coughing all over other patrons and their staff. Stay outside the 6ft bubble, wear a damn mask, and wash your hands. Its that easy. Stop pretending theyre asking for a kidney. Its as much to protect yourself as it is everyone else. People wonder why we have things like stay-at-home orders and closing of non-essential businesses. Its because of you, jackass, youre the problem. Its your lack of ability to exercise common sense and your refusal to follow simple, insanely simple advice that forces the government to exercise it for you. And even then, you still thumb your nose at it in all your ignorant glory. Sorry that you feel like theyre infringing on your right to be an irresponsible child. Look, all Im saying is I get that its frustrating and I get that its irritating, and inconvenient and all the other bad things that it is, but please, continue to take this seriously, continue to do the little things that make a big difference. Stop denying facts, science, and the advice from people who have spent a lifetime doing what they do in the medical and research fields to ultimately make everyones lives healthier, safer, and better. Im done with my soap box now. #washyourhands #wearamask

02.01.2022 Well ... someone had to say it!

02.01.2022 Ok family and friends. I went shopping at Coles yesterday (Sunday 27th October) and l needed corn kernels. So l picked up the cheapest tin which of course was ...Coles branded corn kernels (which also had the biggest shelf display). As l went to put the tin into my trolley l checked where they were grown. Too my shock (but l guess not too shocked) they were grown in Thailand. So l thought stuff this and started looking for something Australian grown. I found Edgell corn kernels (and much smaller shelf display. Tucked away nearly couldnt see them. Really had to look for them). I wish l had taken a photo of the shelf displays but unfortunately didnt. I brought the Edgell corn kernels because they are Australian grown and packed in Bathurst NSW. And what about the price you are asking. Coles branded corn kernels grown in Thailand were 90c. Edgell corn kernels grown in Australia were $1.00. So for 10c extra we could all be helping and supporting our great Aussie farmers. So how about we do that guys. So this is where l need your help. I need you too share my post, get your friends and their friends and so on to share this post. Lets all get this out. (via Kim McLoughlin)
