19.01.2022 There’s not much to report. The NW Regional and Private hospitals are still working under common control to safely restart. The NWRH surgical ward will reopen today and there will be some capacity for emergency surgery from tomorrow, with a view to limited and urgent elective work to tentatively restart next week. The NWPH theatres are functional but the Bass surgical ward is not yet reopened. The focus is on maternity services. The Bass Ward may be functional mid next week f...or a tentative return to elective work after that My team and I now have access to the consulting rooms and are sorting through the backlog of work that had to stop without notice when the outbreak occurred. Telephone consulting has resumed and we are now identifying the patients to be booked on the first few lists once we get the green light.

13.01.2022 As the virus calamity affects the safety of interactions with others, I plan to undertake as much of my consulting by Telehealth as possible. My staff will contact those will booked appointments in the near future. This can be bulk-billed for at risk groups- those over 70, or with chronic illness, or anyone required by the government to be isolating. I will be able to review xrays and other imaging as well as see the referring doctors letter on my computer.... The interaction will then be Skype / face time or telephone. If there is a need for a physical examination (that could not be reasonably delayed), then a face-to-face appointment will be made after the Tele health contact Currently the Public sector has ceased elective surgery for which two or more nights in hospital would be required. If demand on the hospital from virus patients reaches the next tier then all elective surgery in the public hospital will cease. The Northwest Private hospital is still able to provide elective surgery including joint replacement surgery. Currently there is a plan to perform a limited number of time critical public cases in the private hospital. Clearly the activity of the private hospital may change at short notice if required to do so by the State during a declared emergency.

12.01.2022 Wednesday 29 April I still havent had access to my consulting suite confirmed. Patients with appointments today will be rescheduled- please do not come to the hospital

08.01.2022 Still no local news. Certainly no elective work next week https://mailchi.mp/surgeons/racs-covid19-update-326665

05.01.2022 Readers take care - the 2005 work in vitro laboratory studies

05.01.2022 Things are slowly progressing. Most of the consulting is still via telephone and there are quite a few loose ends still to sort out with missed and cancelled appointments during the shutdown. The Private hospital will start some smaller elective cases late next week, and I can now anticipate starting my lists the following week (ie the week starting 18/5). ... There will be lots of work for my team to get that organised and we will be in touch!

02.01.2022 There may be light at the end of the tunnel! The PM has approved the proposal from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association to resume elective work - albeit with some caveats Whereas my team and I are all healthy, the local NW cluster is still being investigated and the hospitals cleaned.... The Private hospital and the Medical Centre are still under state control and I look forward to hearing of further forecasts of an ability to restart https://www.google.com.au//s/amp.abc.net./article/12168770
