21.01.2022 Not something I would usually share on Fusion page but these figures are alarming. I would like anyone who is struggling to know that there is help out there, you dont have to struggle alone. There are many many ways to move through depression and anxiety that are safe, natural and empowering.... One of my beliefs about the escalation in these figures is the lack of options available through our health system. 14.01.2022 Why is it still so difficult to discuss our mental health. When One in six Australians is currently experiencing depression or anxiety or both. This is equivalent to 3.2 million people today.

11.01.2022 Did you know there are two forms of instinct? Gut ..which is our Reptilian brain response and Heart ...which is believed to be our soul intuition. Embedded in the lining of the intestines, is the enterict nervous system, with hundreds of millions of neurons - one thousandth the number in your brain. ... Gut neurons communicate with the brain through the vagus nerve, which runs from the base of the brain to the chest and abdomen. This 'gut reaction' evolved to protect us from danger. Using the gut we could sense predators before we saw them with our own eyes. The clearest connection between the gut and the mind is how we experience anxiety and stress. A gut instinct is when we have a reaction to something we may find fearful. This information from your gut instinct will be sent to the head brain for action. The Reptilian brain, which is in charge of keeping us safe and reacts to hostile or frightening situations. The heart has its own independent nervous system. Like the gut there are at least forty thousand neurons (nerve cells) in the heart. This is as many as are found in various subcortical centres of the brain. Heart intuition is the voice of your soul, that highest part of you that exists before birth and continues beyond the death of this body - as plenty of near-death experiencers will tell you. Following this heart lead intuition can lead to remarkable life changes, as your decisions become about the expansion of who you are rather then limiting yourself to avoiding pain or fearful situations. Using heart-based intuition means you can make quicker decisions about what is right for you, which also means less stress. It also means that you can open your heart more widely to people as you know who you can trust, making it the intuition to follow for love.

05.01.2022 Why is it so important to practice an attitude of gratitude? Evolution- our minds are hardwired to focus on the negative and discard the good. It was much more important for our ancestors to avoid threats than collect rewards. Survival depended on being alert to threats.... The human brain evolved to focus on threats. Our amygdala (two little almond shaped regions on either side of the brain) is like an alarm bell alerting us to threats. It uses two thirds of its neurons to look for bad news. Its primed to go negative. Once the alarm bell is triggered, negative events and experiences are quickly stored in our long term memerory so our brain can know very quickly to recognise a threat. In contrast, positive events and experiences need to be held for 12 or more seconds to transfer from short term memory to long term memory. That's 12 seconds to create a positive memory! This may explain why it's so easy to accept negative comments and dismiss compliments and why we find it so easy to find ourselves in seemingly endless loops of negative thinking. Creating an attitude of gratitude takes practice and you can see why.. if our brain is spending 2/3 of it's time hunting for the negative and converts negative events and experiences quickly to memory - as apposed to 12 or more seconds to register and convert positive events and experiences to long term memory...we have to work a little bit harder to create a positive mind set. Practicing gratefulness is a great way to prime those positive thoughts and create positive memories that we can draw on.

03.01.2022 Take time to recognise where you are holding tension and release it. When you unconsciously contract muscles it's a sure sign that your fight /flight response is activated and you are most probably future thinking instead of being present. So take a moment -when ever you can - and check in with your body. Bring your mind back to the present moment by connecting with your body and conciously release and relax tense muscles.
