09.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago I turned 35 kilos of very ripe bananas purchased for $1.20 a kilo (sorry #tully, sorry #athertontablelands, sorry #qldbananagrowers) into about 6 kilos of dried banana and 15 kilos of compost. The composting is ongoing. The dried banana stores well in the freezer. If you look carefully you will see some shreds of banana toffee clinging to one bit. This is one of the sweetest treats I have ever tasted. The only thing that is better is when the bananas are dried in a wood fired oven - smoky. Now thats to die for. #bananas

03.01.2022 Europes food system can at best be described as a colossus on clay feet. Those words from a commentator from Friends of Europe. What do you think? What does this view indicate for future directions for ag here in the land of plenty?

02.01.2022 JULY 21. Today would have been my grandmothers birthday. She was an old fashioned farmers wife - one of those women who could make or mend anything, grow everything, and worked pretty much every moment of every day. I learned much of what I know about farm safety on holidays at the farm in the Burdekin. My auntie died in a tractor accident, another close family member sustained long-term injuries in a quad-bike accident, and another had a child drown on farm. ... We need to take safety seriously - it is too important not to.
