22.01.2022 Execution is Everything: Vol. 21 Centonove Restaurant Kew, Melbourne... Every suburb needs a place to have something special: A place to celebrate birthdays or just getting through the week. For me in Kew, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, that place is Centonove. A family run business for over 17 years, Centonove has several distinct areas over its two levels. The light-filled ground level has the bar and an intimate bistro feel. Regulars like to eat down here. Upstairs has a little more elbow room and a somewhat more formal feel, along with a private table for eight in the wine room. The food is, not surprisingly, Italian-influenced with great house-made pastas, excellent produce and a refined, light touch from the kitchen. The service, influenced by many young ex-pat Italians, is light-hearted, joyous, knowledgeable and efficient. The restaurant also directly sources many of their Italian wines. By the way, Centonove has earned one hat from the Good Food Guide every year since 2010 and their wine list has achieved a 3 wine glass rating from Gourmet Traveller for the past seven years, putting it on par with the best wine lists in the country. I told you it is special. www.centonove.com.au

18.01.2022 Hardimans Hotel - Kensington, Melbourne As a small reward for enduring a long lockdown and isolation period due to the Covid-19 virus, Melbourne just had its first weekend of limited hospitality trading. The hard lockdown in Victoria finished mid last week; Friday afternoon was a beautiful sunny afternoon, I rationalised that the best thing to do would be support local hospitality operators in the best-way I could think of. A cold pint at my local!... The recently refurbished (only just prior to the Covid pandemic) Hardimans Hotel in inner Melbourne suburb of Kensington, fell right into the cross hairs and off I went. Their covid-safe operational strategy is excellent from the front door welcome to the thank you and goodbye with excellent QR code ‘check-in’ and menus. Naturally they are operating a table service only policy, the staff were prompt, polite and personable in the delivery of a simple service overlay. But the hero of the day was a cold beer in a (distantly) social place! Welcome back hospitality operators of Melbourne, I’ll be supporting as many of you as possible as soon as I can get a reservation! www.hardimans.com.au #food #pub #melbournelockdown #hospitalitymelbourne #postcovid #foodandbeverage #beer

11.01.2022 Execution is Everything at Al Terrace - Doha, Qatar Great meals are made up of Place, Company, Service and Cuisine. Truly memorable meals add in Serendipity. ... Such was the case with Al Terrace in Doha. We had arrived at our hotel well after midnight as a stopover on our way home from Europe. The next day, we woke up to the call to prayer and went down to breakfast. Wrong: It was early afternoon. Instead, we walked around the magnificent Souk Waqif. The wonderful smells reminded us that we were, in fact, starving. We decided to sit outside at Al Terrace, at the edge of the Souk, based solely on its alfresco seating and aspect. It was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. While we continued to feel a part of the souk, we feasted on an array of Lebanese cold and hot mezze. The flavours of the souk then translated into the spices of the grilled meat and seafood. We sat there for a couple of hours taking it all in. It just goes to show what happens when you allow hunger and fate to lead you to an oasis it’s magic. www.tivolihotels.com//souq-waqif-do/restaurants/al-terrace
