25.01.2022 "As we have discovered, the internet will never be a substitute for a physical encounter because physicality is crucial for our wellbeing." Good to see this being asserted but why do we struggle to express the essential physicality of art?

20.01.2022 Are sign painters springing up in your town? When I went to arts school at least one of my teachers had had a day job as a sign painter in their earlier years.

19.01.2022 "Gellatly also spoke of the idea of expertise and how we define and celebrate it in our sector: ‘One of the things I can see in our sector that remains important to me, is expertise and what it looks like. We are too quick to downplay it and undermine it. We need to hold on to the fact that we are experts and that doesn’t mean exclusive or old fashioned that line which is often fed back to you in the arts as a way of not moving forward. We need to bring ourselves to the table and stop underplaying what we do,’ she said." How true this is, in WA public galleries we come to our jobs from many different directions but with experience we do gain expertise and so often it is not recognised by our 'managers' in the same way as it would be if we were planners or engineers. How can we start to change this?

12.01.2022 The Corinthian column first created in ancient Greece became a symbol of power, prestige and western civilisation. In Hello, the column has come alive, takin...g the form of a snake that will watch and follow you as you move through the gallery. Meeting the sculpture’s gaze, you'll be confronted with a dark void. XU ZHEN says the work refers to the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche’s observation that ‘if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you’. Hello nga.gov.au/xuzhen XU ZHEN: ETERNITY VS EVOLUTION is presented with the support of Dr Judith Neilson AM and the White Rabbit Collection. 11.01.2022 "But the survey also poses uncomfortable questions about the support that governments provide for the arts, and it questions whether Australia’s cultural leaders are effectively articulating that value to policymakers." We must persuade our public gallery visitors to tell their elected representatives that support for the arts will be a key factor when they next vote?

09.01.2022 It’s been a beautiful wildflower season enjoyed by many after lockdown, and the closed border making us all appreciate the treasures we have close to home. One... of our treasures of the bush is quandong, which is a really special plant for the Ku’arlu Mangga (Good Nest) team. It’s a member of the sandalwood family and every part of the plant is useful. This is the time of year we get out on Country with the kids and pick the fruit. Its popular in jam but here at the art centre we harvest sustainably for dying, beads, and carving. To celebrate we have new stock of our quandong design textiles. See on line shop in the bio.
