18.01.2022 Just around the corner is our next exhibition by New Zealand born artist Sam Michelle. This upcoming solo, The Dual Citizen Collection, explores Sams kiwi heritage and her Australian identity. 2020 marks the year when Sam has lived half of her life in NZ and half in Aus, and pays tribute to the native flora of both countries. email Jess at the gallery for more details. Online release, August 29. Exhibition dates tbc but likely from mid Sept.

18.01.2022 Very excited to see Dena Kahans work perfectly perched on the mantle in this lush interior, styled by the amazing @breeleech for @duluxaus @lisacohenphoto.

18.01.2022 Artist Sam Michelle in her studio ahead of the release of her upcoming, The Dual Citizen Collection, a body of work which reflects on an equi-temporal moment. Sam has lived the second half of her life in Australia after spending the first half in New Zealand. It is a seminal exhibition which highlights native flora from both countries, interspersed with objects and textiles from her life in both countries.

18.01.2022 Great to see not one, but two of our artists nestled in this stunning bayside house in Melbourne, which is featured in the current issue of Belle. Lori Pensini’s diptych, Elixir, features in the dining space while Adriane Strampp’s work sits on a feature wall in the kitchen. A great collaboration between a@ fantastic client, an art consultant with a great eye, and gallery. Styled by @sweedesign @tracey.atkins @adrianestrampp @loripensini

17.01.2022 Next weekend, Waldemar Kolbusz is hosting previews of his first Gallerysmith exhibition in his new Perth gallery, Kolbusz Space. We had planned to/would love to be there too, to celebrate our debut show of this wonderful artist. After preview weekend, the works will travel over to us in Melb and we are very excited to be relaunching our physical program with Wals For the chance of it. dm for deets. @waldemarkolbusz @kolbuszspace @ Perth, Western Australia

17.01.2022 Delighted to announce that this work, ‘the telegram’ by Lori Pensini which received a highly commended last year in the Gallipoli Prize has been purchased by the Gallipoli RSL for their permanent collection exhibiting at the new purpose built Gallipoli museum at Circular Quay Sydney. @gallipoli_art_prize #gallipoli #war #oilpainting #contemporaryart #australianartist #contemporaryartist #figurativeart #figurativepainting #woman #ruralwoman #telegram #circularquay #sydney #womanartist #knowmyname

17.01.2022 Hot off the press is a podcast interview with Belinda Fox on Maria Stroljars fabulous podcast, Talking with Painters. In the interview, Belinda talks about her practice and her upcoming exhibition, Fragment(ed), which opens at Gallerysmith at the end of july. https://www.talkingwithpainters.com//06/22/ep-93-belinda-/ @talking_with_painters @foxbelinda #painter #exhibition #artcollectors

15.01.2022 We are currently preparing our online exhibition by Fiona Hiscock with our inaugural virtual tour of the gallery (being filmed as I write). This innovation will allow guests to wander through the gallery spaces and enjoy our exhibitions as though here in person. The online release will be later this week, perhaps even as early as tomorrow! It will feature exhibitions by Fiona Hiscock and Belinda Fox. Plus works by Kate Ballis, Jennifer Goodman, and a glimpse of the salon hang in our lounge gallery. 14.01.2022 Thank you Nikki Gemmell for your insight. This crop is the conclusion of a thoughtful piece from todays Aus about the value of artists and the undervalued ways in which the arts enriches our lives.

14.01.2022 #Repost @talking_with_painters Cant wait to catch up with @foxbelinda this week for the next episode of the podcast! Her Melbourne show with @gallerysmith_ is coming up in a few weeks hot off the heels of her San Francisco exhibition. #belindafox #australianartist #talkingwithpainters

13.01.2022 This Belinda Fox painting, A Few Moments, is part of her current solo exhibition at Gallerysmith. This work is a delicate mixed media piece, which includes fragments from Richard Flanagans extraordinary novel (and winner of the 2014 Booker Prize) The Narrow Road to the Deep North. Included by Fox as it resembles her grandfathers experience of war. It is handstand with T, includes ink drawing, watercolour, collage, and encaustic wax. 110x100cm. @foxbelinda

12.01.2022 Tomorrow will be a very exciting day for us, as we release our first ever virtual tour of the gallery. Here is a tiny snippet of whats to come! 11.01.2022 Acacia auriculiformis, commonly known as Australian Wattle is the subject of this 106x106cm painting from Sam Michelles upcoming exhibition, The Dual Citizen Collection. It is one of the most ambitious works in the show, and a truly stunning composition. We launch this series online this Saturday morning at 9am, before the exhibition opens at the gallery on September 17. email [email protected] to be added to the preview list. @sammichellepaintings #stilllife #australiannatives #nznatives

11.01.2022 Instability resonates throughout these images in subtle ways. A seagull hovers on shaky ground, the gladiolus flowers disjointed and cut up, indigo woodcuts intercept the tranquil watercolour Dutch landscapes. Some works sit on shelves, intimate and fragile fragments of time leaning into the stability of wall, holding onto a tiny element of solidity in a most unstable time. Others are a pure expression of gratitude for the beautiful moments nature has provided whilst in lockdown. - Belinda Fox Fragment(ed) at Gallerysmith. Open for private viewings by appointment. @foxbelinda #covidart #fragment #artinthetimeofcorona #lockdownart #architecture #interiordesign l

10.01.2022 One of the Fragments from Belinda Foxs current exhibition. Thankfully, we were able to share this exhibition with a lucky few prior to Stage 4, but next week we will be bringing you a virtual tour. Join our m/l for deets. @foxbelinda

09.01.2022 With slow down in travel and industry, the health of the planet has had some time to to recharge. But its important to remember that we are one and the same. Catherine Nelsons new body of work Future Memories 2020 explores that notion, reminding us that not looking after our environment is a self-destructive act.

09.01.2022 Very excited to be relaunching the gallery program with Waldemar Kolbusz, For the Chance of it. Open day, Saturday, June 13. @waldemarkolbusz

09.01.2022 This banksia work is one of my favourites from Sam Michelle’s current exhibition, yet it is the only one which is still available. Sometimes the best works seep into the consciousness more slowly but resonate for longer.

08.01.2022 Perth collectors have the opportunity to preview Waldemar Kolbusz new exhibition, For the chance of it, this weekend in Wals very own gallery, Kolbusz Space. Previews Fri, Sat, Sun, before the work heads over to Melb for Wals debut show at Gallerysmith. dm us for preview deets. @waldemarkolbusz @kolbuszspace #perthwhatson #perthexhibition

07.01.2022 Fiona Hiscocks current solo exhibition focuses on native bird species affected by loss of habitat during the summer fires in vic and nsw. Many of the hand-built pots include abundant native flora such as the Ficifolia, Ironbark and Snow Gum, while others depict birds perched on barren, fire damaged branches. It is a thoughtful and provocative exhibition about caring for nature and our precious wildlife. The exhibition opened online yesterday and is edging close to a sell-out.

07.01.2022 Theres so much to love about the tiny Spotted Pardalote, particularly when its been painted onto an oversized vessel by Melbourne ceramicist Fiona Hiscock. Hiscocks current online exhibition ruminates on lost habitat in nsw and victoria after the summer fires, which literally left many birds out on a limb. @fionahiscock

07.01.2022 Studio visit with the amazing Fiona Hiscock today. Selecting work for her upcoming exhibition at Gallerysmith. Get in touch if youd like to join the advance list for this wonderful body of work, which highlights local bird species such as the red-rumped parrot, spotted pardalote and blue wren among some stunning examples of native flora.

06.01.2022 My dad loved playing pool and on his passing I became the recipient of his beloved pool table, now set up here in our new break out space at the gallery. Hopefully well get back there soon, at which point we will invite you to join us for a lunchtime game.

06.01.2022 Great to visit Fiona Hiscock studio yesterday to see these works straight from the kiln. Upcoming exhibition deets to be released soon. @fionahiscock #ceramics #capeconran #bushfirerecovery

06.01.2022 Thanks for the shout out @edwina_b ! A Melbourne based artist in a Melbourne gallery for your Saturday #shopvictoria. @sammichellepaintings beautiful exhibition opens virtually at @gallerysmith_ this month. ... I work with the other half of @gallerysmith_, Jeremy Smith on the @childrenscancerfoundationau. In a normal year, @hamishmclachlan and I would host a whiz bang fundraiser for the Foundation at Crown. Instead they raised $569,000 online yesterday. A phenomenal result. So, some art to please the eye and a big boost for Childrens Cancer to remind you there is still a lot of good in the world. Have a wonderful weekend x

06.01.2022 There’s so much to love about Waldemar Kolbusz’ practice, from the confidence in his palette to the gestural application of paint. For me, this work Turban, is all about the pink in the top corner. It’s so deliberately placed and provides a focal point for beginning your journey around this composition. Inspired by the raucous colour, sounds and smells of India, this work is a feast for the senses. Shown here in the lush styled @jamessaidcollections in High St Armadale alongside its partner piece, Takeaway. @waldemarkolbusz #artinlockdown

05.01.2022 Lovely to discover this signature Kate Ballis work in a house listing in Geelong West, purchased by the house owner from Kate’s 2018 series which she exhibited in LA. 01.01.2022 #Repost @aus tapestry WEAVING FUTURES Artist Announcement: DADANG CHRISTANTO Dadang Christanto lives and works in Grevillia, NSW. For more than 35 years, Christanto’s art practice has been firmly rooted in Indonesia’s political history, stirred by his personal experience of the anti-communist purges in 1965-66. Encompassing sculpture, painting, installation and performance art, Christanto’s deeply moving works speak to the very core of human experience. The humble head, ...a recurring motif since the 1990s, was developed initially as a way to honour the innumerable victims of political crimes. More recently, this most recognisable form has become a specific marker of his own experience, laying bare grief, trauma, suffering and loss. The ATW received generous support from the Playking Foundation in 2020 to initiate ‘Weaving Futures’ a unique initiative that commissioned fifteen Australian artists to develop tapestry designs. Stay tuned to see Dadang’s design unveiled in our upcoming ‘Weaving Futures’ exhibition, opening at the ATW on March 9th. 01.01.2022 On this clear winter morning, Im reflecting on places Ive been and those to where Id like to go. In these crazy times, ones imagination for far flung adventures seems all the more relevant and important. This painting by Waldemar Kolbusz captures much of that feeling of escape, with its aqua sea, warm sunset and a beckoning peninsula in the distance. Or perhaps its a martini on the terrace right there that awaits. Titled Wait, this sumptuous 180x120cm painting is in his current exhibition, For the Chance of it. Email us for deets or drop in for your dose of escapism. @waldemarkolbusz #sunset #sunrise #terrace #collectart
