25.01.2022 One of our members, Sue Barnett, has been honoured by having her photograph displayed at Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre. In the photo, Sue is holding the tobacco tin her Grandfather brought in France where he served as an ambulance bearer during WW1.

17.01.2022 Today marks the Centenary of the Battle of Fromelles (1920 July 1916). It was a British military operation on the Western Front during World War I and one of the deadliest and most gruesome in Australia's military history with 5,500 Australian casualties on the first day. Australian WWI correspondent Charles Bean famously reported the Pozieres ridge was "more densely sown with Australian sacrifice than any other place on Earth". "The men were simply turned in there as into some ghastly giant mincing machine," he later wrote.

02.01.2022 Two images of the steel lifeboat from HMT Ascot used in the landings on Gallipoli seen at the #AustraliaWarMemorial. It was used by the 13th Battalion, AIF during the 25 April 1915 landings. You can see the extensive damage to the boat which it received from bullets and shrapnel while lying on the shore. Gallipoli was Australia's first heavy involvement in the Great War.
