24.01.2022 Another easy walk in our wonderful neighbourhood to tempt you. Drive part the way down Crosslands Road and park to the side just before the Berowra National Park sign. It looks like the start of a country lane except that it is sealed. At this stage, walking is gently downhill with scribbly gums and bush lining the way. The breeze through the trees and the sounds of the birds give such a sense of peace and tranquillity. You could think yourself to be anywhere in the world, but lucky us, it’s our backyard at Galston. There are flowering natives to be seen giving that pop of colour either side of the road. #berowranationalpark #nationalpark #crosslandsroad

24.01.2022 Each year I hold a lunch in Parliament for all the secondary school leaders from Hornsby High Schools. I didn’t want these students to miss out in a year when so many other events have been cancelled. So we took the event online with Premier Gladys Berejiklian and billionaire and co-CEO of Atlassian Mike Cannon-Brookes joining us. Matt Kean MP #hornsbyhighschool

24.01.2022 It’s a case of Stop then Go, Go, Go for The Galston Concerts in coming months. The concerts team at Galston Uniting Church have noted the ongoing unpredictability of current health concerns, deciding to postpone the final event of the 2020 series scheduled for 22 November. Northconnex is a great example of the Federal and State Governments working together with the private sector to deliver a road which is a real game changer for our community.... 23.01.2022 Our agricultural and horticultural industry is facing substantial labour shortages for the upcoming harvest season. The agricultural and horticultural industry has come to rely on working holiday makers (backpackers) to play a substantial role in harvesting, however international border closures have created a shortage of backpackers, with none expected to enter the country in the immediate future. 19.01.2022 Local job in Glenorie

18.01.2022 What would we do without CareFlight and NSW Ambulance. We hope our young resident makes a full recovery. CareFlight’s aeromedical crew, specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance was tasked at 3:40pm yesterday to Galston where a 15-year-old boy riding a dirt bike had fallen from it. The boy sustained a head injury and fractures to the arm. The CareFlight Rapid Response Helicopter landed in the grounds of the property 15 minutes later and assessed the patient’s condition. He was pr...epared for flight transfer to hospital. The boy was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.

17.01.2022 Cafe Sasanqua What a year it has been and there's just no way we would have got through it without our amazing customer support (and a little government assistance too). Our team also know the important part they played in making sure we were able to re-open and adapt to the changing regulations and needs of the community. For that, I am most grateful to you all. It hasn't been all doom and gloom for us though, I'm very pleased and proud to have supported one chef through h...er qualifications and enrol another into her apprenticeship. We were finalists in the Local Business Awards, we launched more catering options for at home events, and through our Covid Safe practices and gorgeous outdoor location, we attracted a broader customer base. We will be taking a bit of break over Christmas with our last day open being Sunday 20th December and reopen for 6 days per week from Tuesday 12th January. Thank you again for your continued support!

17.01.2022 As 2020 comes to an end it is safe to say it has been an interesting and different year. We experienced some of the worst fires NSW has seen at the beginning, followed by flooding and storm damage, to be then faced with Covid-19. Each of these events have been trying on communities but the resilience of communities shone through. Arcadia Rural Fire Brigade #ruralfirebrigade

14.01.2022 Well, serves me right for taking Council at their word! They later reneged on allowing us to open as I reported last month, and no indication on when that might change most disappointing. We wish all our supporters and followers a safe and healthy Christmas, and may 2021 herald a return to near normal activities for everyone. We are so fortunate to live in such a wonderful part of the world, where we have nearly eliminated the Corona Virus from our country. Europe and North America with their approaching Winter makes for distressing news, and if we can stay relatively isolated from their surge in cases, we can begin to enjoy a nearnormal life. #faganpark

13.01.2022 A meta-analysis published in the Lancet entitled Menopausal hormone therapy and 20-year breast cancer mortality showed that the risk of breast cancer was found to have increased the longer women used HRT, and doubling for women who used it for 10 years vs five years. However, there was no increased risk for women who used HRT for less than a year, and those who used it on and off were found to have lower risk than those who used it daily. 12.01.2022 Despite a turbulent winter with plenty of hurdles and uncertainties, the Hills Hawks Football Club completed another successful season, the 51st in the local club’s proud history. Despite a substantial delay to proceedings while the state was in lockdown, the season got under way a few weeks late and enjoyed good weather for the most part, coupled with unusually green fields (due to the long break between sporting seasons)!

10.01.2022 How fortunate we are to live where we do; for most of us it has not meant being confined indoors. There has been plenty to do in the garden, time to read and to shop locally. Our thoughts go to those who have not been able to meet with family and who could not participate in those events that are part of life’s journey. Our thanks go to people who did make a sacrifice and thought of others in the community, by following the guidance of those better able to judge the severity of damage possible during the Covid pandemic. History of earlier similar events was often quoted so lessons have been learnt. #duralhistoricalsociety #historycottage

07.01.2022 What a wonderful success Dural Country Club’s Pre- Pennant Carnival was! Thankfully the rain held off and twenty two teams of four from seven different clubs were able to compete, with the overall winners Northmead Bowling Club.

07.01.2022 Well, we have certainly launched into an early summer with days hovering in the high 20s and some hovering at just over 30C. Our Dural store is bursting with summer themes, from racks of lightweight cotton t-shirts and dresses, to sandals and flip flops right through to books on salads and BBQs. Heaters have given way to fans, slow cookers to ice cream makers. #salvos #salvationarmy

06.01.2022 Our collective team at Glenorie Rural Fire Brigade wish to thank all the community for your incredible support to us over the year. We also thank you for your encouragement, financial support, fundraising and for the hordes of packs of water (that are still being used by crews on every callout, thanks!). #glenorieruralfirebrigade #firebrigade

06.01.2022 Well, we are have all been doing different things to keep ourselves amused over the last couple of months. I have a daughter who lives in the beautiful city of Wodonga, Victoria. So of course, she has been in lockdown. To keep herself amused and to help maintain mental wellbeing, she decided to join an online choir. Debbie Does I.T., #onlinechoir

05.01.2022 This month we need the community’s feedback on more subjects than ever before! Council has been hard at work as we try and bring recommendations into reality on a number of issues. If you have an interest in any of the following, please think about making a contribution. Warren John Waddell #ruralroundup

05.01.2022 We may be coming older, but we still love the magic of Christmas. One of the best things about the Christmas season besides food and fun is the opportunity to catch up with families and friends. Next best thing is the exchanging of gifts. Who has not received a Christmas gift that they either did not like or did not want? So, during this Covid-Normal Christmas Season, consider a gift that extends the independence of the recipient. Gifts those ameliorate physical independence, mobility, or the self-esteem. Comfort Discovered

04.01.2022 Greg Browning from the Bureau of Meteorology is warning that the wetter than average Spring could lead to a very dangerous bushfire season. 04.01.2022 One of the biggest trends I have currently seen unfold in the building world is the focus on home wellness amongst renovations, and new home builds. It might be hard to imagine the commonalities between home improvements and wellness, but it turns out, there is a lot. Your house has a significant impact on your health and well-being. You may not realise it, but the materials you use in your home, the way you layout your rooms, the placement of windows and even the lighting installed play factors in our happiness and longevity. So this month, I would like to outline a few simple ways to design your house for wellness. Turrell Building #homewellness
