20.01.2022 Congratulations again to local author Mark Mordue on the publication of his very eagerly anticipated biography of the young Nick Cave. This event should be well worth checking out

19.01.2022 Writing-types, don't forget this unique prize is currently open. Also don't forget we do stock Australian Book Review here at Garden Lounge, like any good poetry shop should!

19.01.2022 It’s a good ‘un !

16.01.2022 Be quick if you want to be in this one! Only 3 tickets left for our next book club. Continuing with Australian verse novels, this time around we're reading the monumental, award-winning Heide by legendary Melbournian anarchist Pi Oh. Given it's length, we're doing this one over 4 separate sessions (November, December, February and March). It's gonna be awesome!

14.01.2022 Oh what a delightful night. Amongst the billed performer, here is Mike Griffiths reading some of his own as well as Toby Fitch's latest one in Red Room Poetry

14.01.2022 lovely review of Noel Jeffs' 'Under the Dome' (which we are privileged to stock here in store) in the South Sydney Herald https://southsydneyherald.com.au/poetry-of-hope-hits-enmore/

07.01.2022 Oh yes we are looking forward to this one!

05.01.2022 Nice review of David Stavanger's Case Notes. Hoping we can reschedule his long overdue reading here we were going to host about 10 months ago!

05.01.2022 Looking for a quick dip into some new poetry? Foam:e is one of many excellent, enduring online journals and is free to read. Produced in Australia but inclusive of poets around the world, with a tendency to direct, observational/conversational work with stable surfaces and voices (not that that's all they do, nor all that good poetry can do, but foam:e tends to curate those particular strains well). We'll be picking out more of our favourite online journals from now on but would love to hear about ones we don't already know. What are some of yours? https://foame.org/home/

05.01.2022 We need writers! If you are a person and you write things, we’d love to have you come and read your work here on a Thursday night. We’re doing live shows of Poetry and Song every week (we use Plato’s very loose definition of poetry which is basically anything written). The fomat: one writer and one musical act. Each of the two acts performs two 15 minute sets, with a short intermission after the first half. YES! We do pay our performers. At the moment the honorarium is... a modest $20 per act, plus unlimited tea and coffee, 2 drink vouchers (beer or wine) and a free meal. We also encourage our audience to make donations to the performers, and if we have a strong night we always increase the honorarium. We do not charge entry, so we are not profiteering, we’re just working with what’s sustainable. We hope to increase the honorarium in the new year, and we’re always open to return performances. The show goes from 6pm - 8pm and on into the night, meaning you’re welcome to get up and read more, hang out with the crowd or do as these two respectable authors did and spend all night playing our arcade machines... To book in: please DONT MESSAGE US HERE - fb messaging is the worst. Please either email [email protected] or come in for a chat.

04.01.2022 We’re doing live stuff again every Thursday night starting last week

04.01.2022 Massive congratulations to Rosie Bogumil on the forthcoming publication of her first poetry collection. Rosie is one of our absolute favourite writers and a compelling performer. We've been lucky to host her performing here a few times, and looking forward to many more!

04.01.2022 Hi all, just confirming we are open and our show tonight with Elsen Price and Amanda Cohen is going ahead. New covid restrictions have come into play which require EVERYONE indoors to wear masks, so please arrive with one as we have a limited supply. Masks can be removed to eat and drink, but anyone drinking alcohol must remain seated. We're also reducing our maximum capacity from 25 to 20 as it's not clear from the new guidelines on that front. Stay safe everyone, and if you bought a ticket for tonight but now don't feel comfortable being out and about you can as always get a refund by following the directions that came with your ticket. https://www.nsw.gov.au/m/covid-19-restrictions-update-6-may

02.01.2022 Our hours have changed! (Again!) As we continue to adapt to the shifting/easing restrictions, we're increasingly gearing ourselves back to our true purpose as a live venue for all forms of creativity (chiefly poetry). We're taking Mondays and tuesdays away from the public eye to work up a bunch of exciting new events including full band performances, a couple of book launches, a new exhibition and a market day. The rest of the week we'll open slightly later and stay open a whole lot later. Coffee til late!

02.01.2022 1 year ago and this still has to be the best show we've ever hosted. Look at how much shit we crammed into Garden Lounge 1.0! And people say the new place is 'cluttered'

01.01.2022 We are closed until 6pm today, when we’re opening for our first live show in over a month!

01.01.2022 Very pleased to be hosting the Sydney launch today of Indian-Canadian experimental writer Kiran Bhat's "We of the Forsaken World". Come along to meet the author and hear him read from the book. Signed copies also available!

01.01.2022 Mark Marusic reading here right now! Hunter Auzins up next, also reading, then another set from musical trio Jenkins-Stocker-Aiken

01.01.2022 Live show at my place tonight! Hasn’t actually started yet but will just as soon as we can find the spare mic stand...
